When Built to Spill frontman Doug Martsch talked to Pitchfork a couple of months back about the band's forthcoming LP There Is No Enemy, he said, "There might be some things that were influenced by soul music, but it all just sounds like Built to Spill guitar music. We play the music that we can naturally play."

At last month's Pitchfork Music Festival, the band cranked out transcendent guitar solo after transcendent guitar solo without ever changing their facial expressions. Built to Spill guitar music sure comes easy to these guys.

On October 6, There Is No Enemy, album number seven for this band, will see release on Warner Bros. That alarming, murky image above is the album cover, and we've got the tracklist below.

The band has a ton of North American shows coming up over the next few months. Their axe-blazing onstage presence is a sight to behold.

There Is No Enemy:

01 Aisle 13
02 Hindsight
03 Nowhere Lullaby
04 Good Ol' Boredom
05 Life's a Dream
06 Oh Yeah
07 Pat
08 Done
09 Planting Seeds
10 Things Fall Apart
11 Tomorrow

I really liked their last one. I don't listen to it much anymore but I should.

I don't know why I never gave this band a fair shot.

This is a keeper, for sure. I got my ass kicked around here a few years ago dissing Martsch's vocals, but I think he's improved and it's also become an acquired taste.

Heard a song on the radio and it reminded me of Keep It Like a Secret era songs. It was good.

I couldn't disagree more. This is good and all but it feels like BTS-by-numbers to me. The last one had better songs and more Epic moments.

not really. if anything, this album strays even further away from the typical BTS jams and has more straightforward melodic pop tunes (that are still uniquely BTSish...). i can't remember the last time i've heard a BTS song with tra-la-la backing vocals.

i love both of them but the records do feel completely different. both are in and going to continue to be in regular rotation.
