No offense guys, this might be the worst one yet.

Stop grousing you dumb cunt and listen to that show from 1970.

You cherry picked the part you knew you'd hate, and surprise, you hated it.

No way, that '89 set was brutal. I'm starting to develop a greater appreciation of the late 70s right now.

I admit I was looking for comedy. The show I picked was the aural equivalent of Modern Family, whereas the show you want me to hear is the aural equivalent of a Sarah Palin speech. There's a difference, sure - but it's marginal at best.

Work got in the way again dammit, so I'm only halfway through Dancin'. Never been one of my fav's. This show won't change that, but I'm already aware of the difference between this era and the early shows. This one feels like they're all sober and standing up straight, with some taped x's on the stage telling everyone where they should be standing.

Could be wrong?

Great interplay in "Sugaree". Really prominent lead by Keith in the keys on this, and Phil's really holding it down subtly. Great sound on this recording.

For all my earlier blathering I feel obliged to opine about Slipknot/Franklin's Tower. Liked them a lot; almost got up and started spinnin'. It briefly loses momentum about 10:00 into FT, but recovers strongly.

Jerry is really on his game here. His fingers seem twice as fast as other shows, with only half the mistakes.

Donna may have invented ass tasting.

I guess you just have to prepare yourself for Disco Dead. It's not terrible, it's just so .... loosey-goosey-groovey. This version of the band would have done great JJ Cale covers.

Surprisingly funky stuff to be sure. The set is dragging a bit for me through Wharf Rat/Terrapin. One more to go.

A solid show, but very few "wow" moments.

I'm getting a waaaay late start on this due to some work stuff.

The Music Never Stopped/Sugaree

These have been really nice and tight. No qualms on my end. Just some smooth tunes to start off the set. TMNS did indeed start off on a great foot. Pharms must've not kicked in yet.

btw:
Quote:
The complete concert set list for the 5/22/77 show at Pembroke Pines, Florida was:[3]

1: "Funiculì, Funiculà" tuning*, "The Music Never Stopped"*, "Sugaree"*, "El Paso", "Peggy-O", "New Minglewood Blues", "Friend of the Devil", "Lazy Lightning"* > "Supplication"*, "Ramble On Rose", "Dancing in the Street"*

2: "Help on the Way"* > "Slipknot!"* > "Franklin's Tower"*, "Samson and Delilah"*, "Brown Eyed Women", "Good Lovin'", "Sunrise"*, "Estimated Prophet"* > "Eyes of the World"* > "Wharf Rat"* > "Terrapin Station"* > "Morning Dew"*

E: Sugar Magnolia

kinda wish the entire show survived.

Yeah, they sorta excised the rockabilly/roots elements.

I am not exactly used to this material, but once I got past that, I like it OK.

Holy Fuck - SUNRISE! This is worse than Coyote during Last Waltz!

Lazy Lightning>Supplication

To be honest, it just all ran together and didn't cause me to sit up and take notice.

Dancin' In The Streets

This just sounds like a version done on some family variety hour.

Yeah, man. It's horrendous, but overall I'm giving this sucker a B.

Help On The Way>Slipknot!

This has definitely been one of the more even-keeled shows I've listened to. This is like the status quo of a Dead show. Everything sounds all on the same level with no spikes in energy.

Franklin's Tower

This so far has been the highlight, and that's not saying much.

Sunrise

Oh right, this is why I never go to those shows that Donna plays around here. Seriously though, she may be proficient at what she does, it still doesn't fit with what I want to hear from the Dead.

Estimated Prophet

I've heard some really great versions of this, one of which was this week. This however sounds off at several points and just drags.
