If there's already a thread about 'Guero' I'll apologise and you can post the link.

Anyway, I'm about half way through 'Guero' right now (1st listen). Now I'm a big Beck fan who lists 'Odelay' as one of the great albums of the 90's but nine tracks in I just want to turn this shite off. This guy has gone right off the rails. It just sounds so flat and lifeless.

What's the Ober Opinion? Some of you guys will probably have had the album longer than me, so is it going to grow on me? Will it slowly reveal it's charms with extended plays or is it just a piece of crap from an artist who's creative well has run dry?

i love it. i think your head is just trying to click with whatever beck you know and use that as a starting point. which is fine, but i don't think this album is about beck doing his beck imitation. the beats are really tight, and the styles vary. i heart beck.

I've listened to part of it at a record store listening station. I really dug what I heard but can't really give a full opinion yet.

Starts as good as anything in his catalog and fades into OK/pretty-goodness. "E-Pro" is a track-of-the-year candidate.

I enjoy it much more than any of his pre-Sea Change material, but it's not nearly as strong as that album.

There's a few good tracks but someone else said it sounded like Odelay outtakes and I think they were right on.

it's OK and it's still growing on me a bit...time will tell where it falls in relation to the rest of his stuff but I'm surprised that a Beck fan wouldn't like it at all
