I'm guessing there is a difference in your ages. I was hanging around a group this weekend with half 40 and overs and the other half mid 20s, the 40 and overs totally expected everyone to have been inundated with racist humor and other such things growing up as a matter of course, hearing 'em on the playground, around the house, family events, etc... The 20 year olds were oblivious to much of it and a couple were a bit incredulous that you could hear such things at school or anyplace like that. Progress.

I'm pretty surprised as well. Pretty commonly used term around my house growing up. Not supporting it or anything but my dad used it often and he never meant it derogatory. I know it's awful but I swear he just didn't know any better. He also used "I jewed him down" a good bit. It wasn't until I got older and I told him that these things weren't cool at all that he stopped, although I've still caught him saying those since.

He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. I swear stuff like that was just like saying "I'm full as a tick" or "enter colloquialism here".
