i now like playing in near-freezing temperatures on crisp windless nights. anyway, this forecast sounds horrible.

your fall weather is gorgeous. it's like being indoors out of doors. i had a great day today after shaking off the nausea and headaches of my flights. i went to jackpot and everyday music and dropped a nut on wax. i went to powell's and holy fuck that bookstore is the most insane thing i've ever seen. i'm a non-reader (who loves words) and i'd like to move in there and spend the rest of my life getting well-read. PLEASE recommend some books so i can go back tomorrow and buy. i never know where to start, let alone in a store like that.

then i noticed that grizzly bear was playing tonight at the crystal theatre, but SOLD OUT. so i grabbed a slice and some pints next door, sitting behind some girl i had seen at everyday that i'm sure i knew from somewhere. turns out her boyfriend is a dude i know from the road, and he was doing sound for the openers, the morning benders, who were actually pretty good. so he put me on the list, and it turns out i know the dude doing sound for grizzly bear too. really good night, and a nice show, beerdrunk and without weedo. oh well. i take a jetlag pill and hit the king sack. peace.

Sounds like a good first day! Yeah, the rain held off yesterday so you're lucky (I think it's rolling in today, but we'll see). I've always felt Portland is a small town, mostly because I constantly meet people who know other people I know, so it's cool you got to experience that yourself!

As for book recs, hmmm... I've been hearing good things about "Juliet, Naked" by Nick Hornby (blue room, fiction/literature). Up in the Pearl room, I believe that's where they have all their music/art books. I also recently read and loved a book called "The Gargoyle" by Andrew Davidson (in blue room, fiction/literature). I'm pretty sure you could find cool books about fixies or something too, haha. Really, for me, Powell's is all about taking a few hours and just perusing.

If you were talking about any place but Portland, "small town", there, would be a pejorative.

nah, i love that montreal feels small too. hell, even new york can seem small at times. millions of small worlds in one.

thanks, d. unfortunately, i don't think i have a few hours in which to be whelmed there left in my trip...

I could be (and probably am) wrong, but that might be where Rodney took me. If so, definite thumbs up. Well, still a thumbs up even if it was a different place.
