The second film from Rian Johnson who wrote and directed Brick. Definitely a worthwhile follow-up, with no sophomore slump here. Self-described as a mix of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Paper Moon. Also, interesting Johnson says he watched The Last Waltz for some characterizations as well. The movie actually includes a Dylan and The Band song (in karaoke) in the film. Definitely worthwhile if you enjoy caper films and smart, funny scripts.

Co-produced by Tim Burton, "9" I thought was much better than the reviews it got. Recommended.

Haven't watched it in a while, yet I've been talking about it a lot.
So, I finally gave it another viewing.

Still great.

I'll pile on with TOGG - I just watched Field of Dreams. Shit Fuck that's a good movie. If you build it, he will come.

I went to Dyersville, Iowa with my Dad when I was younger to see the field. Walked into the cornfields, had a catch with pop, bought a t-shirt...good times.

I also used a James Earl Jones quote from that movie in a report on baseball in High School. That movie used to give me chills, haven't seen it in years.

Couples Retreat. (Vince Vaughn and John Favrau continue to have great on-screen chemistry....Kristen Bell in a bikini is a major plus...Movie was just alrght and most of the funny scenes were in the preview.)

Paranormal Activity - real good.

Drag Me Back To Hell

This was ok. I mean, for what it was and what it wanted to be, it was good. I feel like Raimi made this to see if he still had the chops to make a pretty heavy practical effects horror film. Obviously, flashes of Evil Dead popped up--mostly through some black humor. Alison Loman is horrible though, and that's probably the biggest detractor. I almost wonder if it would've been better with Ellen Page.

Overall though, its enjoyable, and probably one of the better horror films you can rent right now.

Subjectivity amazes me. I thought she was great and a far, far, far better choice than ellen page would have ever been.

It was a great film, but the ending scene could have been a bit better.
I wouldn't take really young kids. It isn't scary, but it isn't necessarily a movie most kids could sit through.
It seemed to due a better job targeting adolescent kids.

Really dug it. The group I went with all said this was like when we saw Dark Crystal or Labyrinth. When we were 8 we would've eaten this up.

As an adult though, I really enjoyed it.

Snuck into a screening of this right after i saw the goodness that was It Might Get Loud".

Not one laugh, chuckle or grin out of me. None. It was a dead zone on the screen.

really? Not even a chuckle out of Louis CK's character?

It Might Get Loud looks pretty cool.

oh man you getting a jump on shit? I need to start planning my halloween lineup solidified. Yesterday's post has me thinking I should throw an installment of Faces of Death in there.

I should try to have one representation of every good horror genre: slasher, zombie, monster, psychological, etc...

I'm thinking of pushing some Maniac all over that shit.

Friends of Eddie Coyle is a classic. Also, an amazing Boston movie, featuring early-70s Bruins in action.

I bought that book earlier in the year but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Never seen the movie either.

Finally got around to seeing this:
