Okay, who's not playing with a full deck-elevator doesn't go to all the floors-doesn't have both paddles in the water etc, etc, etc.

G.G. Allin?
Iggy?
Syd Barrett?
Roky Erickson?
Lee "Scratch" Perry?
Jaz Coleman?

Feel free to name some of your own.

Steve

I'd like to think Bon Scott had potential.

I cross GG Allin off the list just because he was talking about offing himself onstage for years and failed to live up to the hype. I'd rather put that dude who was in the Yardbirds that electrocuted himself to death with his amp on here.

I think Iggy's deck is full, although he was definitely cookin' on another planet in the 70's.

You're dead on with Allin, F'ed up from birth, that one, so as long as dead folks are elligible...

One is a brilliant songwriter, the other is not. I'll let you decide who is who.
Both also create pretty cool drawings.

Does anyone remember when Brett Anderson was going loads of herion and god know what else and gave that really mad interview to the NME where he said his real name was Kyytdjdjlki (or something) and he was a cult priest with the head of a antlered stag? That was great!

Coincidentally Suede put their greatest album just after that. Do loads of drugs kids!

i disagree; my personal opinion on Jeff is probably a little twisted because I saw him openly try to STEAL the spotlight from Will and Bill at Olivia Tromor Control shows when all he was doing was banging a floor tom-----and trying to ride the popularity of the OTC; I've never bought Mangum's schtick----I like his tunes, but I think he's a punk.

He's not a madman----he was just opportunistic.

i guess it depends on what you mean madmen... people who have an actual behavioral or psychological disorder, or just plain freakwads. i've never thought of brian wilson of a madman, but when i hear the term it hink more along the lines of sid vicious.

Hmm... If he was such an opportunist, why isn't he out there riding his own popularity now?

He was hated by a few musician folk I knew in Ruston. Jealousy? Maybe. But they also felt he did a king hell job of turning his back on them. I never heard that sort of thing about Bill Doss, Hart or Schneider, and I've hung out on several occasions with Ross Beach [Smilin' Joe Fission, Gerbils] and though he was from Baton Rouge, not Ruston, he always went out of his way to be friendly and down to earth.

What about Skip Spence? He wasn't all there.

"Was" is the key word Max. Dude was opportunistic enough to get his music out there and try to exploit every opportunity at self promotion. Hes not riding his popularity now because he frankly has no interest in the music biz whatsoever.

Yeah I meant to ask you the other day about your connections to Ruston and if you knew any of the E6 crew from your time there.

Bill and Will were always incredibly nice and polite guys to me even though I would ramble on and on about how they needed to jazz up their live act and cut out the 20 minute noise orgies, etc.

I only ever said hi to Mangum, but I just felt (as an outsider in observation) that he was trying to outshine those guys sometimes because he was a "character". and they were pretty humble dudes who just happened to be great songwriters..... *my 3 cents*

Edit: And how has nobody mentioned Anton Newcombe yet?

They all left not long before I got there, or before I really found my stomping grounds around town, since I grew up 1200 miles away. I did meet Ross and hang out on a number of occasions with him through some mutual friends and acquaintances, but he's the only one.

There was a bad taste in the music scene when I got there, with the leftovers feeling burned pretty badly by the likes of Better Than Ezra, Cowboy Mouth and E6 jumping ship and ignoring where they got some airtime.

Was Dash Rip Rock from up there too? I only know of them as being an N.O. band and I know that the drummer dude from Cowboy Mouth used to be in Dash way back when.

This reminds me that I havent heard that Paul Sanchez (guitarist from C.M.) album that I used to have in a long time. I wonder how it holds up. I remember liking it way back when.......
