Super ugly game in a lot of respects but I think that was actually caused by it being two pretty good and evenly matched teams. There was a playoff vibe out there that made it highly entertaining.

Also the fact that the Saints and Vikings are both playing out of their minds right now. Both teams may be competing for the wild card come the end of the year which makes this win even bigger.

Lotta football to play though.

Falcs look good, especially their defense. They should go deep into the playoffs this year if they don't continue to pile up on injuries.

Most shocking of all from that game was that the Falcons actually made some big stops.

You couldn't be more right about the injuries. We've already sustained a couple of tough ones and John Abraham has been pretty injury prone in the past (knock on wood). If he goes down we're going to be hurting without a solid pass rusher.

That's what the Bears get for sending a middle schooler (5'7" 180lb RB?!?!) to do a man's job on the goal line.

ft, it wasn't cutler who lost this game. in fact, they wouldn't have been in a position to tie/win the game if it wasn't for him.

Cutler was 17-20 in Denver and Orton was 21-12 in Chicago: Of course there are other factors, but that's a pretty damned important one.

like a crappy defense vs. a top one? records is a terrible metric to judge one football player on

Rankings of team defense the last two years:

Chicago: 21st, 28th

Denver: 29th, 19th

I know, math is hard.

How about in '05 when he got most of his wins?

Didn't he have 10 wins in 2005 (with an amusing 59.7 passer rating) when the Bears D was ranked #2?

Cutler wasn't in the league yet but (as you know) Rex was 9-6 last year and 2-1 in '07...

I've got no issue with you Bears fans convincing yourself that Cutler is going to lead your team to the promised land (I would most certainly do the same thing in your position) but I just don't see it: You essentially gave up a guy who has already been there (and who has improved statistically every year) for the New Jeff George. Congrats.

huh, for whatever reason i didnt think the bears ranked that low in '07. i was mistaken. orton is one of the few ex-bears who i am actually pulling for to do well since he seems like a good, non-confrontational dude. that said, i'd take jay cutler over kyle orton any day of the week and to be seems silly to think otherwise, homer opinion or not

Been to the Promised Land? When the Bears made the Super Bowl in '06 (season of...), that was the one year Rex got thru without major injury, & started regularly.

Orton's done well under center, but he's done about as much as post-Tampa Bay Testaverde.

Just FYI, though, you're never going to be sitting around in 2035 telling your kid about how awesome The Bears became once they got "that Jay Cutler...he mighta been from The Sauth an' that, but maaan, he sure was that missin link for Da Bears."

And, no one in Denver will be reminiscing over "The Orton Years" like "that last ski season before all the ice melted and we became Atlanta with a big hill."

Both of these guys are sub par game managers (at best- Orton) and sub par want to be more than game manager but end up making boneheaded decisions and losing said game they are being paid extravagantly not to lose (Cutler).

Damn. How about giving some credit where credit is due? The Broncos are 6-0 and Orton has been stellar so far this (young) season. People keep waiting on the other shoe to drop but what if it doesn't?

Orton wouldn't even be my 20th choice of QB to start a franchise but that doesn't mean in the right SYSTEM he can't thrive. Dude is currently in the top 10 in every statistical category that matters.

I'm not ready to anoint Orton the 2nd coming of anything but the guy deserves props because as you are fond of saying, in the NFL, you are your record.

I think we'll know more after their next 2 games; Ravens and Steelers.

Cutler is a basket case and will never be another Farve (the reckless QB who pulls out last-minute wins and the occasional stellar performance). Watching him against Matt Ryan made his meh light shine more brightly.

Have we been talking about Orton and Cutler for 3 days?

There are way better players in the league that warrant more discussion. ;)

After this weekend (not to mention the first six games of the season), it's pretty obvious that

Orton >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cuntler

I've always been a critic of Matt Stafford, but I don't think he's as big of a basket case as Cutler. He's just a rich kid from Highland Park/Dallas with a gun for an arm.

I've still got a hard-on for Clausen, but Romo gives me whiskey dick.

i think if you put swap the o-lines each respective qb has to deal with you'd be singing a much different tune, robert. thats kind of a big deal. there were plenty of times that orton had like 5 or 6 seconds back there to throw, which is something the bears o-line just aint gonna do.

that said, broncos are playing to orton's strengths perfectly.
