Should be really interesting. I'm a sucker for skateboarding artwork & design. Plenty of the classic designs, as well as many new pieces from Lance, Hosoi & others, and a ton of local talent.

I'll take some pics and throw them up for anyone interested.

Is Christian Hosoi clean now? You can throw up the picks, I'm always amazed at how old and haggard some of those guys are now.
I shouldn't talk, I'd break myself if I seriously tried to skate at this age.

Edit:
I went to a show similar to this in July I believe, where a bunch of local artists designed blank boards. If I was loaded, I would have paid $500 for a few of them and actually skated with the board.

He's been clean for years. Found god, lives a very positive life now. Good on him. He survived a rough time.

Yeah, both he and Ed Templeton do some great work. It's amazing so much of it went on skateboard decks.

I had a blue Lance Mountain shirt that I wore long after my skating days ended. And that fucking Hosoi doc is pretty sweet. He and Todd Marinovich should convene a speaking tour.

I don't have anything against it. I realize I chose decks when I skated due to specific designs, but didn't quite view it as art back then.

Very cool man, thanks for sharing. Loved seeing pics from the "jump ramp" era..I would have loved to have grabbed one of those ODB shirts.

man, i still love jump ramps. they have a great one at the local skatepark here with a rail next to it.

the black dude (Paul-Street) in the photos is a good friend of mine, and the guy that screens the shirts. he's been doing it for years, kept it underground, and still had dudes like Jay Z, Dilla, and a ton of skaters wear em. if you want i can see about getting one of the ODB shirts for you. lemme know.

The pic of the kids skating the ramp in the driveway with "photo:street" on it is how I spent many-a-day back in elementary school.

Also, a signed keg cup=classy.

Can I also point out that a few years ago when I found The Search For Animal Chin used, I thought I died and went to heaven. I'm pretty sure mine bit the dust not long after I bought it. I need to digitize it. Heard they were releasing it on DVD, but haven't heard anything since.

I did get a response from my friend and here's what he said:

Quote:
In the summer of 1985 I bought a Thrasher magazine, which I used to read from cover to cover and would never skip a page. By the time I got to the back cover there was this photo of Lance Mountain holding a skateboard, griptape side out, and on the griptape was this painted Graffiti that said Powell Peralta... his sponsor. Obviously, I wanted to emulate it and did. A friend asked me to do one on his board and then another friend and on and on and on. Eventually I ended up meeting this guy named Mark who had just moved to DC from Brooklyn, NYC. And... he had Graffiti on his griptape. We got to talking and he asked if I had a tag, which I didn't... didn't know what a tag was, and when he realized I knew what I was doing without knowing WHAT I was doing he took me under his wing and taught me how to do Graffiti.

Any time I see Lance Mountain that bit of my history always comes back to me.

if your friend has some pieces he would like in a touring skateboard art show, tell him to get in touch with me.
