hey, haven't been here in ages, but i remember there being a pretty big austin contingent on the board, so i'm asking your advice.

i'm going to be in town next week, 6/23-6/27 for a conference. where should i go for good eats? good music? good beer?

tons of thanks for any help with this very important matter. :)

Eats aren't my bag (I usually just freeload off Phil, and he's out of town through August). Though if you can be a little more specific in terms of what you're looking for I might be able to help.

For music, the only sizable name here during that stretch is John Vanderslice on Fri night at The Parish. But there are tons of places to peek in and check out local blues, country, indie, whathaveyou and get silly drunk.
Some names: Antone's, Emo's, Red 7, The Continental Club, The Parish, Mohawk, Stubb's, Scoot Inn, Lamberts, Beerland...
A good chunk of those are on the 6th/7th and Red River St corridor, which makes it easy to bounce around if that's your thing.

A good resource (disclosure; it's the place where I work) is www.austin360.com - we've got a deep calendar, restaurant guide and tons general info on what's going on all over town.

Good luck. Shoot back with any more questions.

You at the Hilton on 4th? Yeah, that's prime stumbling territory.

PM me it you want to meet up and grab a beer. Kit's usually down too, given some notice.

if you want some totally kickass bbq and can find your way over, sam's on e 12th is the shit. the brisket sandwich is not to be missed. there's not much in the way of really good 'cue downtown, although i guess stubb's is all right, if not a little pricey.
if yr into american-style tapas at all, we've found the food at 219 West [219 w 4th] to be pretty badass, and if you go during happy hour it's something like half off so it's a pretty great deal. tuesday night is local beer night so pints are 2 bucks or so.
if you manage to make your way to the south side, sandy's burger stand on barton springs/south 1st is fucking phenomenal and thurs/sat nights they run a special for a burger, fries & a drink for 3 bucks and change. it's pretty much just over the river so it's not too far from downtown, just a walk across the bridge really. austin's got a couple of really good burger stands - sandy's and dan's are by far my 2 faves and worth checking out if you get a chance.
you could stumble ass backwards into any number of good mexican joints here, dont neglect the taco carts though. theyre usually pretty good.
also, decent place to shoot a game of pool and drink some cheap beer is lovejoy's over on Neches st. one of the few bars downtown i can actually stand, most of 6th st is a mess.

Bumping the thread...after annual college football trips to Knoxville, Oxford, Athens, and others, I’ll be heading down to Austin on November 4th for a weekend of football and stomach/liver destruction.

I’ve been in contact with Phil (PoD), and he's passed along some great recommendations. I've been pulling them from misc. Austin threads as well.

If any other Austin Obnish are interested in grabbing a beer or have any recommendations on things to do while we’re in town, just let me know.

Did anyone hang out with Jamie when she was in town? She's a fun gal. Anyhow, i'm down for a hang with bart and his dudes. Any shows going to be good in town Chad?

And nick, you've been here for like a year now, right? Still haven't met you....

Full lineup here: http://www.funfunfunfest.com/artists

damn. that looks killer, but it only runs over the weekend. we've got the game on saturday and head out on sunday, so i doubt we'll be able to hit it.

we head into town mid-day thursday and will pretty much be bar hopping thursday afternoon/evening and all of friday. definitely down for an obner meet up.
