(rads) Gidgets Ga Ga - Dreamer : Lastfm says "gidgets ga ga bonds the razor edge of alternative rock to a radio-ready pop sensibility. Emerging from the frozen avenues of Chicago, the band generates considerable head via a blazing energy of pulse pounding tempos." bort says: the opposite of what that just said. 2/10

One of my fave songs (and albums) of the year. Eat me.

that roman candle song is at least a 7.5 as well

Well, in bort's defense neither of them are rote pop-punk mall muzik.

which is too bad, because i'd like to hear something catchy on these radio stations.

R4

(drinky) Deerhunter -Disappearing Ink : I wonder if this is one of those bands that is getting more accessible as the years go by. I remember disliking them when they first came out, but this isn't too bad. Maybe the best I've heard of them. thumping, and short and sweet. 6/10

(wench) Bon Iver - Flume : i wish he would sing within his range. it sounds like he's not meant to go so high. this is my only bone of contention with Bon. too bad. 4/10

(two guns) Joy Division - Isolation : Close to unfuckwithable. 9/10

(e) Califone - Better Angels experimental folk or alt-americana. i've got nothing against this, although it seems like it sound rough and clangy just for the sake of roughness. something cleaner might have faired better to my ears. 5/10

(shiv) Soulwax - Teachers : it appears they ruined a perfectly good Daft Punk song. can't think of a good reason to rate this more than 3/10

(rparis) The Format - For You : I thought these guys were more rocking, but maybe i'm misremembering, or this is just a softer number by them. not a bad little slice of indie pop. i like the verses. 6/10

take a seat shiv. next round tomorrow!

Round 5

(drinky) Volcano Choir - Seeply Mouth : Starts off building into something, but continues to drag when i'd rather hear an outburst. It just pulls back and then lurches forward again with vocals that put me off. I'm sure there's some climax at the end but by now i've lost interest. epic fail at being epic. 3/10

(wench) Avett Brothers - Ten Thousand Words : Repeat time saver - 5/10

(two guns) White Denim - I Start To Run : Nice bass line. Not bad for a garage/blues trio. Short and shake-inducing. 6/10

(e) Nick Drake - The Thoughts of Mary Jane : Another ND song from e. Good song but i don't think i like it as much as Cello Song. 7/10

(rparis) PJ Harvey - Me - Jane : Whoa, two Jane songs in a row. One of those Lastfm magical moments. All we need is some VU up in this bitch. If I had to make a tenner for PJ this song would be on it. 8/10

drinky is done. next round whenever! FINAL FOUR is next!

FINAL FOUR!!!!

(wench) Appleseed Cast - Losing Touching Searching : This is a band i get mixed up with a bunch of other bands due to name. Mabe if there was something remarkable about the music i'd keep 'em straight. This isn't bad, just forgettable. 4/10

(two guns) Miike Snow - A Horse Is Not A Home : this is actually a pretty cool song, but it's performed by a guy who trying to sing like a diva, and the metronome beat is pretty inexcusable. 5/10

(e) Sally Shapiro - Swimming Through The Blue Lagoon : As a stand alone track, this is...better than what i've been hearing in this round. but i can tell it's part of a larger sound/story.movement on the album. which i would like to hear 'cause this sounds interesting. 6/10

(rparis) The Weight - Like Me Better : this isn't bad either, but those vocals sound like Jay Farrar shitting his pants. i can't with good conscious give this more than a 4/10.

in finals here i've got to a tie-breaker.

(rparis) Teenage Fanclub - Ret Liv Dead : sheesh, if someone would pull one of my fav bands of all time more often this would be a lot easier. not even the in the top 5 on this album but still great. 8/10.

(wench) Vetiver - Down From Above : I've heard talk of these guys in the recent past. this is quite good, though this particular track starts off strong and ends strong but the middle part is just filler. 6/10

wench is out.

the two winners here will move on to the championship round!

(two guns) White Rabbits - Dinner Party : decent sound. i like the sax and piano in there. songwriting is hovering somewhere just above the mendoza line though. 5/10

(e) Supergrass - Bad Blood : yay, more brit rock/pop. this is the kind of paint-by-numbers 3-minute tune that should be on the radio, in commercials, and the latest faux indie teen romp. that being said, 6/10.

(rparis) Jimmie Rodgers - In The Jailhouse : over the years i've warmed up greatly to "modern country" but I still think the originators of the genre have yet to be beat. i could listen to this stuff, any day, any time. 9/10

two guns is out.

e and r in the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!

CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND!!!

(e) Echo & The Bunnymen - Stars Are Stars : When I'm in an 80s mood, I go for Crocodiles. Pretty good pull for the round that truly divides the heroes from the losers. 8/10

(rparis) Bruce Springsteen - Be True (live) : Damn, this is great. I'll probably still get shit on for not giving this an 11/10. but whatever, the Boss is still growing on me, this one is an instant hit though. 8/10

tie breaker!

(rparis) Andrew Bird - MX Missiles : we're pulling out all the stops here. one of the best acts i saw last year, and ranks among the highest in terms of "stage talent". Good song from a good album by a good artist. 8/10

(e) UNKLE - Price You Pay : decent song. mellow but interesting. i like the vocals. like they are in a huuuuge room. 6/10

congrats to rparis. he's racking up the titles!

thanks to all participants!
