Pre-season rankings are in: Kansas #1, Michigan State #2, Texas #3

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/polls

I have to wonder whether or not the coaching change and recruiting class will be enough to make Kentucky a top five team.

I usually handle all the RPI bull shit and bracketology, and then Monty or somebody handles the CD tournament. I swear to god I'm going to win it one of these years.

Edit: Since Nebraska sucks year in and year out and has never won a tournament game, I'm just a huge fan of wasting a bunch of time throughout March watching four games at once and getting pissed when some team like George Mason kills my bracket.

Cincy basketball hasn't given me anything to get excited about for awhile, except a few convincing wins over American University. My performances in the tourney pools has been less than stellar. I usually do great the first 2 rounds and then promptly shit the bed.

Way to go Oranagemen!
I realize it was an exhibition game, but losing to a D-II school is pretty shameful.

As the post-Lute Olsen era continues we have a preseason poll without Arizona receiving a single top 25 vote.

N.C. State's picked to finish last in the ACC, but I think we will have players that actually care this year and hustle and play hard, and am hopeful we might be able to surprise some people this year. Also, the team picked to finish last in the ACC hasn't actually done so for the past 7 years or something like that.

Looks like it's going to be a long hoops season for Harry.

My huskers beat USC today in LA, so that's nice.

UCLA lost to Cal State Long Beach.... I repeat, UCLA lost to CSULB. The worst BB team at UCLA perhaps since 1962.

Villanova is my least favorite Philadelphia area team, but I like Scottie Reynolds and I'll probably root for them this year. And I'll secretly root for Temple to beat them.

I'm expecting my incredibly young Bearcats to be at the bottom of the new poll. That loss to Gonzaga in OT was tough though.

Cincinnati ranked #22 and #24. It is a little odd seeing UNLV ranked again, and props to Portland for making the top 25.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/3047 ... r-96-teams

NCAA Basketball Tournament considering increasing the total number of teams to 96, with the top 32 teams getting first round byes. The tournament would also be exclusively on cable, i.e. ESPN Networks.

The positives are that it would most likely eliminate the NIT and most quality BCS conference teams from having their bubble burst like Syracuse had happened to them for a couple years.
The negative is obvious that it waters down the competition and eliminates the chance for immediate upsets of big time teams, plus it would be on ESPN. I don't want Dick Vitale or Digger Phelps to have anything to do with Final Four games.

I don't know if it's perfect the way it is, but it's pretty great - and if you are a bubble team you can't really complain too much that you aren't in the tournament. Sure there might be some lesser teams in the tournament due to conferences and such, but you at least had a few chances to not be a bubble team.

So it will make the regular season one long scrimmage for the big dance.

The Nebraska Woman's team is kicking serious ass this year, they are unbeaten and up to #14 in the polls. They blew out #5 LSU on Saturday.

Nebraska's men's Team beat Tulsa last night in Vegas, but will probably lose to BYU tonight. I'm waiting for the Huskers to fold and get destroyed during the Big 12 season.

I should also mention that Temple is back in the top 25 poll.

UGA is irrelevant in this sport so I'll keep this brief.

We don't have the players to compete with the upper echelon of the SEC right now.

BUT, this Mark Fox triangle offense is going to surprise some teams come mid January or so.

If we can tap into this states talent, I truly believe we are a sleeping giant. This state has produced more top 10 talent than any other this decade. No damn reason we shouldn't be competing in the tourney on a yearly basis.

I think more interesting is how grossed out his teammate is. He's literally choking back vomit.

Back to the topic at hand, I'm really hoping WVU can stay strong into March for the tournament. Battle for Big East.

Don't have the link right this second but apparently 4 Tennessee basketball players got arrested for open containers, WEEG possession, and weapons charges last night.

Just another NYE in Knoxville.

USC puts self imposed sanctions on themselves for the OJ Mayo saga.

Post season for this year and a reduction of scholarship sanctions:

http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/n ... id=4792634

Guess they figured they'd better drop the hammer before the NCAA did. The whole thing feels eerily similar to what happened at UGA with the Jim Harrick debacle. Welcome to the Dark Ages USC.

USC gets what they deserve in this particular instance because Mayo had already shown signs of this type of stuff during the recruiting process BUT overall with this stuff, it bugs the hell out of me. The University ends up suffering the most while the player is living his dream in the NBA. Granted, it doesn't always happen with a 1st round draft pick but I still feel there is an imbalance with these things.
