do the thing that hurts the least amount of people. But also that which yields the best long term results, even if there is temporary discomfort.

Gonna record an album.

Do I

1. play and sing everything myself

2. hire out a couple of session guns or friends

if 1 it will be more than competent and it will be all mine

if 2 it might sound better, but then i might want to play it out live which will inevitably end up where all band attempts end up

I'm leaning towards 1.

Honestly, Phil, I like 1 too. I like the idea of the gestalt project. You can always have others help, but in the end, it's yours. Plus you have no one else fuck up but you.

in german they have a term for this
"Kunstgesamtwerk"

you're going for the total project, not just single aesthetic elements.

Dear xix,

I'm stuck in an existence where nobody I know has a brain. Today I mentioned Woody Guthrie, and nobody had ever heard of him. This shit happens to me daily - no one I know has heard of Roy Lichtenstein, Saul Bellow, or Glen Seaborg. Jesus Christ, Seaborg was born 8 miles from here, and had a fucking ELEMENT named after him. Seaborgium, atomic number 106. The dude is a local, and is in the fucking periodic table. You'd think they would have at least heard of him, but nobody I know has a fucking clue. I realize dead physicists aren't American Idol contenders, but if one of the greatest minds of the last century was born just down the road, you'd think you'd at lead KNOW about it.

But no. Morons surround me. My question: what do I do? Do I humor the imbeciles, or do I become that guy that has to constantly prove they're more educated, more intelligent than their peers? How low should I set my social expectations?

Signed, _Mutty

Take LooGAR's approach with his backing of the Grateful Dead (or anything, really); Scorched earth. If they object, they weren't worth knowing in the first place.

I recently went to lunch with a ladyfriend of mine. During the conversation she started to ask me what kind of girls were my type. Is she really trying to find out if she's my type?
