Watched Trick R Treat last night. Terrible. The whole time I was wondering when it was gonna get good.... then the credits rolled.

Wished I chose The Night of the Hunter instead.

saw it in a theatre last night. i think it's one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time.

One of my top favorite movies too. The effects (other than the stop motion at the end) are spot on perfect. Tom Savini admits this is the best make up effects ever committed to film. I never get tired of it.

Both pretty disturbing...though very different movies. I liked Wes Craven's more. The ending of the new one is pretty lame.

-Orphan - Much better than I expected. Nice twist to it.

-The Ugly Truth - I was pretty much forced to watch this. I showed up at my friend's house and she totally blindsided me and said that we are watching it. It was as bad as I expected.

-Moon - One of my fave. movies of the year. Mansell's score almost brought me to tears. Rockwell deserves an oscar.

Stuff I need to watch:
Food, Inc.
Hunger
Bronson
Eastern Promises

Last several I've seen:

Land of the Lost - This was perfectly fine, really. Reasonably funny - not hilarious - and it was pretty much the perfect thing to watch with my parents while they were in town. I still don't think Danny McBride is funny, but I think this was probably the funniest thing Will Farrell has done in the last several years. And it was just kind of a fun, goofy movie. I'm probably one of the only people that likes Mars Attacks, though, so there's that. I just like intentionally stupid sci-fi.

Unfaithful - That Richard Gere movie from several years ago. My wife had wanted to see it so we Netflixed it. It was pretty good, really. I guess it was a remake, but it's sort of "the oldest story in the book" anyway.

The Men Who Stare at Goats - So I wouldn't say I was drunk, necessarily, when I saw this, but I did see it at a theater that served beer after I'd already been drinking earlier in the day. I don't really think that's why I liked it, though. It had a really shakey start (Ewan McGregor's weak narration and his poorly done American accent were a little distracting), and even though I got in for free, I was thinking it might have been a mistake. It builds up a lot of charm and character, though, and as soon as George Clooney's character comes in, the movie really starts to find it's footing. For me it was that rare comedy that actually gets funnier as it goes rather than wasting all the good gags early on before getting bogged down in its own hackneyed "story". The actual ending wasn't so great, but a lot of what led up to it was really enjoyable. Worth a rental.

Amadeus - Been meaning to see this for a while. It's hard to really have an opinion it, really. I don't know that I'd call it great movie, but I certainly can't say that it wasn't good. I thought the cast was pretty great, and I wondered why I haven't seen them in anything since. If anything, I thought it was a little too grandiose although in a semi-biopic about Mozart, I guess that's to be expected. The movie itself is sort of an opera. I'm glad to have checked it off the list now, anyway.

I'm generally a big animation fan, but I tried watching that once and couldn't make it through it. But I guess I had similar problems with the Ralph Bakshi movies I tried to watch, too.

Originally filmed for Dutch television, this doc explores Alan Sparhawk and his wife Mimi Park (of the band, Low) at home in Duluth, MN. While it does feature live performances, the doc is more interested in Sparhawk's faith, and really how his day-to-day interaction is with his family. While its weird to see Sparhawk jogging and going to church, I think the most revelatory point here is that Sparhawk's faith plays an important part in how he writes music and deals with his drug addiction, and recent breakdown. One of the most eerie scenes was when Sparhawk talks about whether he would kill for God. Odd, but shapes really where Sparhawk's mindspace is at. When asked how his music is connected to God, Alan sneers and thinks about it for moment before saying something to the effect of "Jesus didn't just spend time in temples". An apt response, since one of his earlier diatribes was about America and how its crumbling. All in all, it led me to greater appreciate and understand Sparhawk's motivations in his music. If you're a Low fan, its a must-watch along with "Live In Europe".

As with any Criterion, the viewer must ask why the film in question is included with such lofty, and heavily-regarded films. If you take Downhill Racer at its face value, it becomes a head-scratcher inclusion. However, the accompanying documentary of the disc sheds some light on the fact that this film planted the idea in Redford's head to create Sundance Film Festival. He reasoned that if he was having problems making, and exhibiting a film that challenged cinema-goers then obviously others were as well. Is this enough to warrant an inclusion into possibly the most well-regarded collection of films ever made? Perhaps not. It is an interesting film and whenever you place Redford and Hackman on screen you are sure to receive top-notch performances. Also, placing this film in the wonder years of the late-60s, early-70s cinema, you see that while not as heralded as Easy Rider or Midnight Cowboy, this film certainly contains the same bravado filmmaking that was starting to emerge and change the face of film.

I could not wait for this to be over, and I really like Godard. I get why it's considered great/important, but I pretty much hated this movie.

Paper, are you trying to tell us Sasha Grey may not have impeccable taste in (non-adult) film &/or media?

(Weekend is her favourite film, if I'm not mistaken.)

Kinda strange that you know that monty, I'm not gonna lie.

Actually, I thought she did a really good job in The Girlfriend Experience....but it would seem her taste in movies is suspect.

Funny People made me wish you were able to give half stars on Netflix. It was good, but about 30-45 minutes too long.

I watched this last night. It surpassed by low expectations for it. I wish Apatow would only do dark comedies. But you're right in that it dragged at the end. However, the end gave us Eric Bana's character , which was my favorite.

It's a stupid thing that annoys the hell out of me. Some movies just aren't 4s, but 3.5 would be perfect.

From the creators of Wonder Showzen:
Apparently there are small porn operations who will act out any script they're sent for the right price.
No sex involved, but it's definitely a mind fuck.

TGE was a good show, no doubt... But I have to ask: why are you finding it strange I know a porn star's favourite film? I live for that shit.

Plus, I think it was on Fleshbot, at some point. That editorial division does a great job keeping up with the Crush Objects.
