So this story brings up a question... What are the all-time worst ways rock folks have died, (as in most embarrassing). Think - Mama Cass and the ham sandwich, etc.

Yall some smart bastids. I know you got somethin good.

I don't know what beats John Bonham choking on his own vomit. Oh that's right, NOTHING!

Look at the size of that hearing-aid on Johnny Ray! Jesus. He can probably hear us talking RIGHT NOW!

Can't believe I forgot him. He used to visit a tenant in an apt. building I worked in all the time.

Didn't he crash in some kind of airplane he had built that came in a box or something????

Yep, he was flying an "experimental" plane or something, and crashed. He was big into flying, I guess.

I gotta say, though, for a member of a band like Foghat to bite the dust by falling in his own home... conjures up images of "I've fallen and I can't get up!"

Keith Relf, for the second time in as many days.

Greil Marcus had that great feature where he catalogues hundreds of rock deaths of the 70s, giving points for musical contributions to the past and future as well as for the sheer spectacle of the manner in which they died. That's one of the greatest bathroom reads of all time.

I'm not sure if it's true or not, but it makes a better story. The claim was that he had forgotten to fuel up the reserve tank, so when he switched, he's up in the air realizing he's out of gas with no back-up.

...wow, he was killed by rock and roll! Well, rock and faulty home wiring, but still.

Mama Cass has to be it for me. I mean she was a big girl and she died eating a sandwich. I think she was even eating in the bathtub or I might just be remembering this album cover:

uhh...why would you find that funny? That was a shitty way to go man.

And though it's not one of the worst I'll add Marc Bolan only for the fact that his wife and her brother survived the car accident and he died on impact. They ran into a tree. jesus.

I've always heard that the Cass Elliot "ham sandwich" story is urban legend.(and bullshit)

Being murdered in your own swimming pool....oops i mean drowning in your own swimming pool (when you were known as a great swimmer) sure musta sucked though.......

Oh yeah having your minister father blow your brains out couldn't have been too cool either.

Huh. I always wondered... seemed too "good" (for lack of a better word, sorry) to be true.

Sam Cooke anybody? Shot by motel charwoman in LA after being accused of forcing sexual relations upon a 14 yr. old. Tragic.

I think you are going to see a dramatic increase in the number of people falling down stairs and dying in the next few years.

Ohhh yeah... and good old Lake Monona here in Madison is where Otis Redding crashed and died. Interesting tidbit: Steve Cropper's prized telecaster was on that plane, and he never wrote another #1 after he lost it. It's still down there, somewhere amongst the 35-degree mud and 4-foot-long muskies.

The local diving club dives in the Other lake, sadly, or else I'd be waaay more tempted to put on the full-face coldwater suit and go with them sometimes... and maybe kinda stray away from the group w/ a flashlight.
