What is that crappy music that Fox plays after the playoff games? It sound like it should be played at a military funeral. It makes me turn the station and not listen to the post game report.

as a Mets/Red Sox fan I have really been struggling with who to support in this series.
I am a New Yorker but I hate the Yankees.

so I am gonna go with Phillies aka not Yankees.

Did you guys notice "Blister in the Sun" being played on the stadium organ?

I want to see a shot of his face as he figured out that he caught that.

I did. Also, Fox used at least two Widespread Panic songs going to commercial last night.

Chase Utley is an absolute beast. Man when he's right, there are few finer hitters in the game. Jebus.

Without him this series is already over. What he's doing is sick but like some sportstalking heads were saying this morning, even with his performance the Phils are still down 3-2.

I just don't see 'em taking 2 of 2 although I'm, begrudgingly, pulling for the National League.

Too bad Cliff Lee can't pitch game 6 and 7 as well.

Chase has 6 hits and 5 of them are HRs

Rollins breaking out of his slump was a big help.
Howard breaking out of his would be huge.

It's cool the Yanks won, but I was hoping for some more crazy shit to go down in Philly.

The Phillies had the 7th highest pay roll this year, so I don't really feel so bad about them being outspent. It's not quite as bad as Minnesota facing off against the Yankees in the first round, with the Twins having something like the 24th largest payroll in the MLB.

I get really angered by my Cub fan friends whining about this when they had the 3rd highest payroll this year. They should learn something from Mets fans and not bring money up.

Several things:
1. The right team emerged from the AL in the Yankees--they've obviously got the better team.
2. The right team emerged from the NL in the Phillies--they definitely outclass everyone else in the NL right now.
3. The right team won the World Series, even though my aliegence is with Philly. I knew going into the series that the Yankees were the better team--although I was hoping that the Phillies would be able to find some more of that Post-Season magic they seems so good at conjuring.
4. Next year should be fun.

i'm no yankees fan by any means, but this feels like such a tired argument and something that only comes up when the yankees win the series. obviously having the highest payroll doesnt = instant championship. i'm not sure if i heard much from the redsox detractors when they last won it in '07 and '04 and they had the 2nd highest payroll in mlb each of those years.

plus, until there is a salary cap, you can't fault any team for spending as much money as they have to build the best team they can. sure it's not fair to the marlins of the world (who have managed to win 2 series with a payroll under $50k each year by the way), but it's hard to slag on the big spenders when there isnt a rule against it.

just because you have a high payroll doesnt mean youre spending the money wisely. (ie soriano and bradley's bloated contracts)

Not a Yankees fan.
But I feel good for Girardi (a former Cub and, by all accounts a good guy) who was able to emerge from the shadow of Torre to win a Series.

This morning my whiney complaint is more about the DH than the payroll. 6 of the 7 RBI coming from a position that the Phillies don't have on their roster. That said, they didn't get the job done at home when there was no DH. I hate the DH and the yankees on principal and i'm just annoyed and complaining.

Pointing out that the Phillies have the 7th highest payroll is a little disingenuous when the Yankees spent nearly 800 million more, close to twice as much. I'm glad the Phillies are finally in the upper class of spending, and that they responded to winning the WS by continuing to spend. But the Yankees are clearly in a class all their own.

I don't mind the spending--I'd rather a team put that money back into the team ala the Yankees than pocket it (See: Nationals, The).

And while the Phillies are 7th in the MLB in spending, if you look at their starting 8, Ruiz, Howard, Utley, and Rollins are all home grown while Werth and Victorino were both Rule 5 acquisitions--only Ibanez and Feliz were free-agent signings. So unlike a team like the Yankees who go out and try to buy the best player for any given position, the Phillies just try to fill needed holes in bullpen/rotation/etc. Which, incidentally, is more the approach of the Yankees in the 90s when they were doing so well--they had a really great core of home-grown players. That was a helluva team.

"I think we're in a span right where the next couple years is going to be very important for us," Manuel said. "I think it's going to be our heyday. It's very important for the next couple years that we stay afloat."

that warmed my heart a little.
