Actually I heard a podcast about this, and it's the usual suspects. Water (shitloads), potassium, vitamin B. Coffee is a win/lose in that the caffeine resitrcits your blood vessel to help with the headache (hence "headache powders" usually having it), but it's a diuretic which will dry you out further, which makes the brain shrinkage worse. Oh and by the way that's what the headache is about - your brain shrinks ever so slightly, which tugs at the lining.

as much water as you can possibly drink, ideally before you go to bed.
Prefferred cure of choice was vitamin water. Then, sleep as much as possible. You also want to get some food in you asap. If it's a puker then eat and drink what you can, even if you're puking something is getting in you. Take some advil with the food.

Hot showers?

Also, ginger ale is really good too. Lots of ice.

Food will help with the shakes too.

I am an expert in this topic.

There are hangovers and then there are HANGOVERS (still puking at 7pm, still messed up on Monday from Saturday)

We just had a round of layoffs but I was spared. I expect work around here to get hectic when things get underway. Should I bail proactively? I could probably find a job that I'd like more even if it paid less.

I would be actively pursuing a venue out, were I in your Kenneth Coles.

can you get unemployment? Ask them to lay you off? Otherwise you're stuck without a job and no money if you quit.

I haven't been to many, actually, I am far more of an expert on Boston. I would probably say my favorite is Marlowe and Sons in Williamsburg. Everything there is perfect and their chocolate caramel tarte with rock salt is amazing.

I also really love Cafe Gitane on Mott St. and have heard wonderful things about the vegetarian place Candle 72

Wallse, is an Austrian place in the West Village that I wish I could go to more often. It's impeccable. Freemans, on the Lower East Side is also great.

oh and the Modern, in MoMA is likely the best restaurant I have ever been to.

that helps the stomach and the general "ugh" feeling. But the night before when you're out drinking, try to get a few ice water or bottled waters in your system between your drink of choice. Hangovers are typically atributed to dehydration. Also pop a vitamin before you go out (we're all malnourished anyway).

this is right near my buddies place. pretty cool place, if you can deal with paul bunyan bartenders and uber-hipster mustachioed clientele.

Yup, owing to Alcohol also being a diuretic, with a 4-to-1 water loss compared to volume of acohol (the actual acohol in solution). I used to have a rule for my weekly gig (where I drank free) that it was "1 for 1" with beer than water. Do that all night and you're gonna be ok. You're also gonna pee a lot.

I guess if you drank 16 beers and 16 waters, you'd still be in deep, but who has the time? (Answer: "Alcoholics!" I guess)

I subscribe to that 1:1 ratio too. One Jameson one water, and I have no trouble drinking a dozen each, smoking several jays, and feeling fine the next morning, other than a hell of a lot less smart.

By "one foot in or both feet out", I was actually asking the same question as Black Magic Putin.

I would consider a new job, if it meant saving a friend's job.

If he's not happy there, or is there only for the pay, then yeah maybe a move to something slightly less lucrative but more fulfilling could be a good thing. Personally liking who you work for and what you do is amazing.
