Really good book. Mormonism is of course it's main target, but I think it gives some good insight to certain aspects of the criminal justice system as well.

Just got this book this week. It's about Journalist Robert Kaplan spending time with the mujahadeen during the soviet Afghan war.

Is it rehash or is there something different? I'm only asking if its more "early adopters" stuff we got in his other work.

I actually enjoyed this book overall more than The Cold Six Thousand: Better narrative, better character development and he didn't give up writing half way through and resort to sentence fragments and Document Inserts.

I will also recommend this book, as well as the rest of Krakauer's books.

I definitely didn't like The Cold Six Thousand as much as American Tabloid. I'm very hesitant to delve into this right now. Still, I'm pretty sure I'd like it.

He betrays every character and delves into some stupid, pointless, less believable than the first 2 shit, but go ahead.

I hate this book on a par with the Star Wars "prequels"

Started this last night and was pretty much totally engrossed...

Mick the Stripper, harry and a couple other regulars in the NBA thread would do well to put it on their Christmas list.

I'll be picking this up this weekend. I've heard really good things.

The one negative review I read of the Krakauer book on Tillman is that he spends half of it Bush-bashing for going into Iraq. Apparently the Tillman parts are great. I have been meaning to read Under the Banner of Heaven since it came out.

I'm almost done with this:

Once you get Klosterman's rhythm going in your head, he is a fun read.

I have the Simmons book in the bathroom at work. Great for short takes.

Yeah I don't know why but I'm ignoring both the author and Gladwell's advice and just sawing through it. I expect I'll slow down once I'm half way through--its a big fucking book about basketball.

As a former NBA fan from the 80s and 90s, I'm curious about that Simmons book.

Gar, definitely read that Mormon book. It's fucking horrifying.
