Do you guys read the back and forth TV Club thing on Slate? (I got addicted to it during The Wire and now read it for MM as well)

I was just reading today's. a) these people suck each other cock's and b) I think the flashbacks are great, so everytime they slag them I hate them a little more.

But of course, I read.

I read them but they rarely give me anything new to think about. Alan Sep's blog, however...

Yeah, I'm not looking for anything new to think about, they just help me remember shit.

So, in the spirit of Cotton's appraisal of future seasons's happenings, but with no awareness of the show myself (I've seen prolly an half-episode, total, of Mad Men), does this relocation to Reno predict Betty Draper ending up single, after wising up to whom she has reached as a lifeline, & going to Haight & becoming the cool older chick in the Summer of Love?

I know, I know -- kind of like what became of Homer Simpson's mom -- but is it possible that's what the writers have in mind with not just the marital dissolution, but estrangement?

I'm thinking Sally will turn out exactly not like mom with or without Francis in the picture. Sally drank Grandpa's Koolaid and he lavished a lot of praise on her--and Sally also showed an awareness of some of the tension between Betty and Gramps--she's probably going to try to form an identification unlike her mother's. Sally's approaching the age of differentiation and she's a hell of a lot more of a self-agent then her mother (in the limited way a 10/11 yr old can be). And this is all separate from "generational change" of the 60s or whatever.

I'm actually a little more interested if the series gets more in the mind of the boy next season.

Sally will be 16 or 17 it appears when Woodstock rolls around. I'd sayshe'll have a fine career as a mattress for some hippie jam bands - a sort of old money Jenny from Forrest Gump if you will.

& 40 years later, she'll have a cameo on an indie-rock web-board's Grateful Dead experiment.

I like how even though Weiner says Betty's childlike persona is central to her character, that an actual child (Sally) seems a more dynamic character.

I'm curious how Don will be as a father through the divorce and "freedom" of starting a new agency?

It really is the best show. I missed like three episodes of season 3 and know there was some stuff I was behind on, so can't wait for the Dvd's to see the whole thing.

Just watched the last two eps of Season 3 as a refresher for tonight.

Ready to do this.

Curious to see how far in the future they go with regards to the new company's development and how they handle the massive cultural shift that was about to begin. Also, the Betty issue.

Sorry "Hung" and "Entourage", you just got bumped.

I believe we're starting mid-64. I'm wondering if Don is an epic strange hound, or just keeping 2 or 3 chicks along.

Also, hopefullly Roger is drinking by 9am and Bertram is getting prescribed 'CID by his shrink.

But the good thing about the show is that it's hard to predict, rarely forces plot lines, and has not yet had to introduce characters or scenarios to advance plot lines or chew through seasons/eps to make the producers or creators more money.

Yeah, I've had to take back my thoughts on some episodes I previously thought sucked due to the set up they provided for big payoffs later. Just hope that with 2 straight Emmy's they didn't lose focus.

"so cheap they can't afford a whole reporter." Roger Sterling is the greatest character on tv.

And they used the Nashville Teens for the closing credits. Tobacco Road is very underrated.

He really is on another level.

Tell me more about (and by that I mean shoot me a link to) this Nashville Teens rekkid, cos that song was tight.

Link forthcoming. The Nashville Teens were an early british invasion band that had a major hit with Tobacco Road. Didn't release another album until mid-70's and history kind of forgot about them. Now, they're most famous for being Jerry Lee Lewis's backing

I really really liked the premiere and am really excited to see where it goes now that it has kind of been re-booted. More Joan, though - "I won't even tell anyone after it's aired"

Yeah, good episode laying the groundwork for the season. I like that Don is picking up hookers to slap him around a little bit.

And after I said you can't predict, I think there was some epic foreshadowing with that reporter who was an injured Korean War vet. The WSJ article will trump the ad age article, the original reporter will get pissed about getting scooped and/or notice a detail about Draper's time in the war, dig deeper, and possibly expose him....or come close to exposing him.

I was surprised Don didn't pull Bertram aside and tell him why he couldn't do the WSJ piece. We shall see how it plays out.
