So the milk crates don't damage the bottoms of the album covers?

Hell, no matter what, if you listen to them, there's gonna be some wear. So pull the stick out of yer butt and enjoy the music!!!
;)

But, if you're concerned about that kind of wear, lay a piece of particle board in the bottom of the crate. And just be careful when removing and replacing your albums.

:lol:
My records are no where near mint condition so I'm not overly concerned about it but for some reason I thought the bottom stuck up and would put dents or holes in the bottom of the covers. I'm probably not thinking of actual milk cartons but the things I used to store toys in as a kid.

yeah, i have seen 3 or 4 different depths to record mailer boxes. i mailed out a few sets of about 20-30 records last year and no recipients had any problems upon delivery. you can get these at some record stores or music supply shops.

Ditto. Smaller ones = storage + putting tables on top of perfectly as well...

Quite a few months ago before I filled that guy up, but you get the idea...

from top to bottom:

7"s
Turntable
Cd Player
Stereo/Tape Deck
Cd Binders
LPs

You'll have to search garage sales or antique stores for it though.

The right sized milk crates are pretty choice too.

That's what I don't understand. I keep hearing from people about how vinyl has made such a comeback (and not just among uber music snobs) yet there's no one selling decent storage for smaller collections.

I want to ask for it for Christmas but don't want to put this task in the hands of someone who doesn't know what they're doing.

what is decent storage? i think ikea has numerous options for decent storage. as noted elsewhere in this thread, the majority of my collection is in ikea shelving.

USPS Crates are the best, steal tons of them from work. they even have convenient handles.

I've never found an adequate way to store 7"s. Right now they're in some crates from a World Market that closed and sold off their displays.

I just spent $100 on a 1080 cd storage bookcase, and still will need about 2 more. About how many records do you have in yours?

Where did you find a price like that on a cd bookcase?

I have this Boltz shelving system:

Image

It does its job, holding about 800 LPs, but has three drawbacks:

(1) the vertical brackets on the back restrict the storage;
(2) the thing is pretty expensive, but is built like a rock;
(3) the shelves are really heavy, which is great while it's sitting in your house/apartment, but when it's moving time, it's a real bitch.

In our next house, we've already decided to have built in shelves for LPs, and for books.
