Hey peeps from right outside NYC

Tuesday, a buddy and I are venturing into that neck of the woods to spend some money...It's been several years since I made a jaunt to that area for music, so I'm not sure what stores still exist or not...

Doing a lazy search, I came across Sound Fix and the Academy Annex, both off the Bedford Avenue Stop...

Are there any others in the area? Hopefully within walking distance or one or two subway stops at most? Lookin for the rock stuff mostly.

thanks!
Dov from Jersey

i can vouch for those stores. haven't had to look much deeper when i've been in town, as i tend to blow the budget before making it into the other.

Permanent Records in Greenpoint is pretty alright. You'll have to hop on the G, though, or walk for 20 minutes.

wow - this thread made me realize how long it's been since I have gone record shopping or bought a physical album.

I'd agree with all those choices, assuming you're just going to be in Williamsburg.

Maybe you should check out Record Grouch, if it's open during your visit: http://recordgrouch.blogspot.com/

btw funny that you said Brooklyn is outside NYC lol.

Sorry...."outside the island of Manhattan'....:)

anyways, we hit Academy Annex (sucked), Sound Fix (carbon clone of Other Music), and Ear Wax...Came away with little...

There was another good indie rock store, that I have been too in that area (walking towards Warsaw), that I cant recall the name or its exact location....It possibly shut down though....

we need an Amoeba here....

the only place I would ever really consider going to is Other Music. But again, I rarely buy anymore. I would just think of those places in Williamsburg too. I can't even think of any in my area of Brooklyn. Literally not one.

i was let down by Other Music. bunch of douchebags work there that act like they know shit, but don't, and the vinyl selection is lame.

Other Music isn't great..It's for the really underground indie people mostly...But its one of the last remaining places left..

I still like Academy (19th St) the most, even though the employees there think they are filming High Fidelity all day long...

Norman's, right off St. marks sucks for the most part, except they have a downstairs area that currently have a $1 used cd sale, and I have found a number of gems recently...

other than that, I pretty much shop online these days...not as much fun, but no other real choices..
