We've been asked to contribute to a Sloan tribute album, and the 2 tracks we would have chosen are already spoken for ("Deeper Than Beauty", "G Turns To D").

The shared Sloan album collection of Hospital Grade members amounts to 4 albums (Smeared, Twice Removed, One Chord To Another, Never Hear The End of It). We've pretty much run out of options, as a lot of the songs from these albums are already taken.

Are there any Sloan fans here who can recommend some other tunes we might want to give a listen to and give the ol' HG treatment?

We're kind of interested in going for the the Andrew Scott - penned numbers, because they tend to be a little weirder, but this is by no means a strict guideline.

Here are the songs that are already spoken for:

Underwhelmed
I Am The Cancer
Median Strip

Penpals
I Hate My Genration
People of the Sky
Coax Me
Bells On
Before I Do
Deeper Than Beauty
Worried Now
Snowsuit Sound
I Can Feel It

Same Old Flame

The Lines You Amend
Everything Youve Done Wrong
G Turns To D
Junior Panthers
The Good In Everyone
Nothing Left To Make Me Wanna Stay

Money City Maniacs

Sensory Derprivation

Who You Talkin To
The Other Man

Light Years

Tell Me Something I Don't Know

My favorite songs not on that list would be 500 Up, Witch's Wand, and Take It In. I can never remember which were written by whom, though.

I've only heard their last album and didn't care for it much. Witch's Wand is my favorite on it, though so I guess I'd vote for that.

oh gosh, so many I've always wanted to do.

snowsuit sound
everything you've done wrong (my personal fave)
can't face up
coax me
the lines you amend
she says what she means.

since you can't do many of those...I'd go with can't face up or she says...maybe keep on thinkin?

"500 up" by Hospital Grade.

But I also contributed "Deeper Than Beauty" as Penny Blacks, which you can listen to here:

I've only heard bits & pieces when it comes to Sloan. Being that I'm a huge fan of da power-pop, what would a CD's worth of 20-30 songs have on it?

About half of Twice Removed and the rest silence.

Actually, that's a tad harsh. Sloan are okay, but there's just something faceless and uncommitted about their music. It's so middle class, refusing to take any risks and basking in its own smugness. They manage to write decent tunes from all the borrowed parts, but nothing that'll demand an immediate replay.

Being in the US, I didn't really hear about them until they were well into their career. My favorite is still my first exposure, Navy Blues, which they unashamedly made a Beatles record. Incredible pop document, and highly catchy. The ensuing live record is fun as well.

My favorite is still One Chord To Another...with Twice Removed and Navy Blues not far behind. With the exception of the AWFUL action pact, there really aren't any albums I dislike from them.

I'd swap your first two, but wouldn't fight too much if challenged. I'm another "late to the party" Sloan fan, starting with One Chord... as a new release.

I find nearlyy all of their releases to have a clunker or two, Twice Removed being the most consistently solid, but on every album I find some tunes that are so fucking perfect I cannot believe how brilliant they are and wonder how I managed to let them get by me the first time around. I'm on the lookout for them to sneak down to MA or RI for a small gig, which I understand they do every so often.
