I found it quite good at the time but haven't seen it since...I do have a feeling that any scene involving Michael Douglas would be cringe-inducing bad when watched now.

I think it's a tad overrated but I couldn't disagree more with Loog's assesment.

Agree with all this. The running time is 2 hours 40 minutes. Probably could've cut about 30 minutes but then again, the long, drawn out nature of it kind of fit since it takes place over such a long period of time.

Great movie. Really captured the terror that the killer cast over the city. IMO, ranks with Fincher's best work.

Ben, you do much better when you have your opinions spoon fed to you like this:

I would rate Fight Club, Se7en, and even The Game 1000 rungs up the ladder from Zodiac. I guess if you consider Alien 3 Fincher's best work, it would rate with it.

Now tell us how much you liked the humanity and the love story from Brokeback Mountain, so it allowed you to overlook (i.e. jack off to) the sex scenes.

Just realized "Amelie" and "Primer" aren't even on that list. Fail.

i've not seen it, but the plot summary looks more compelling than 90 minutes of two nerds clone-spotting

Is that animated, have a twee soundtrack, or can be described in any way as meta?

Sorry, disqualified.

is sexy beast really anything more than a run-of-the-mill heist film with two great acting performances? i haven't seen it since the theater; haven't been inclined to. great use of "peaches", though.

i'm somewhat surprised by some omissions like amores perros and the proposition.

WALL-E should be top 10, if not top 5.

It has two of the most difficult scenes ever put to film.

One - where he murders "the wrong guy"

Two - the rape scene

Surprisingly good ending

Pffttt - "History of Violence" was a pile of dogshit.

No Dancer In The Dark is just wrong. One of the most depresssing movies I've ever seen.

I suspect they decided to just include a few foreign films, most likely the ones that made Hollywood studios money. If they had included foreign films without bias, at least half of that list would be non-English speaking movies.

Where are Amelie, Irreversible, The Piano Teacher, Amores Perros, The Motorcycle Diaries, A Very Long Engagement, etc.?

The funny thing is, I totally missed that he killed the wrong guy. It wasn't until I watched it a second time that I noticed it.

A few that haven't been mentioned that deserve consideration for a top 50

In America
Man On Wire
Oh Brother Where Art Thou
Unbreakable
The Lives of Others
Shaun of The Dead
Gomorrah

Unbreakable

The Night Shamalamadingdong flick with Sam Jackson? That could be the worst movie I've ever seen. Also, I think it came out in 99?

Good call on Motorcycle Diaries, OPA! -- that was a really well done and enjoyable movie.

The Lives of Others should've been Top 10 easy.

ive not seen the three in bold, but imo, a very long engagement was essentially amelie redux and the motorcycle diaries was basically a 2 hour paul harvey segment...i.e. "and that little boy...grew up to be...CHE GUEVARA

Looking at this list made me realize what a great decade this was for movies, regardless of which ones do and do not belong. That being said Waking Life does not belong on the list, one of the most boring things I've ever seen.
