Michigan State appears to be fucked in their bowl game, it's not like they win many of them anyway.

If I was Will Muschamp I'd be looking for the door at this point, although he's currently the highest paid assistant or one of the highest paid assistant coaches. He could have a job that rivaled the Texas gig within a few years.

Ndamukong Suh won the Lombardi Award (lineman of the year) tonight beating out:
Terrence Cody, NG, Alabama
Jerry Hughes, DE, TCU
Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma

He's 2 for 2 so far, and can win 5 more, but I doubt he wins the Walter Camp and the Heisman.

TCU's Jerry Hughes and Ndamukong Suh of Nebraska discussed the end of the Texas game last night at the Lombardi Awards.

But in this week of picking up trophies, he took some time away from the celebration to apologize to fellow Lombardi Award finalist Jerry Hughes of TCU for not knocking off Texas in the Big 12 Championship game on Saturday.

Suh was chasing Colt McCoy with seconds left in the game and he threw the ball away as the clock ticked to zero. But a review ruled there was a second remaining and the Longhorns kicked a field goal for the 13-12 win.

A loss could have given undefeated TCU a spot in the national championship game. Instead Texas is headed to the game against Alabama.

"I wish I didn't get to him," Suh said. "I pushed him down and forced him to throw that ball away. I should've let him run around a little bit longer, then we wouldn't have had to worry about trying to block a field goal."

Suh delivered his regrets to Hughes earlier in the week when the two were up for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. Suh also won the Nagurski Trophy as the nation's top defensive player, and is a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

"I told him, 'No apology needed, you did everything you could,'" Hughes said. "We were all rooting for Nebraska, obviously. One second from probably going to the national championship game, that's not too bad, you know? TCU has come a long way and for us to even be mentioned in the conversation with the national championship is a great honor."

While I'm not full-blown jumping out of my chair excited about this, it's definitely better than bringing in a guy whose last name brings to mind the most notorious lemon the auto industry has ever seen. I guess Kelly's the best ND could do. My only real concern is he's another all offense/no defense guy, just like Captain Lapband. If Cincinatti had only been able to stop ANYONE this season - I mean, yeah, they're undefeated, but they give up like 35 points a game. Not really a good fit for fixing what's wrong with the Irish.

I wanted TCU to go, too, but they do realize that Cincinatti would have gone if not Texas, right?

Colt McCoy won the Walter Camp Award for the 2nd year in the row. The last two winners including him last year have finished 2nd in the Heisman race.

As for the TCU issue, they said had a chance for the title in the article, which they did, since the Coaches Poll is 1/3 of the BCS and TCU finished higher than Cincinnati in all polls but the Computer.

I think Kelly is a fine hire, but weren't Notre Dame's problems defense related, and isn't the Cincinnati Defense relatively soft this season. Maybe he'll bring in a top notch Defensive coordinator with him, but I wouldn't expect him to lead them to a BCS within three years.

Suh won the Bednarik and Outland Trophy.

Kai Forbath of UCLA beat out Blair Walsh of Georgia for the Groza, but UGA still has a chance to win the Ray Guy Award.

In Kelly's defense, I think there was only 1 returning starter from last year on defense, and he was only here 3 years so he was still using players not in his recruiting.

Douchebag.

I will give him a break if he only had one starter coming back, but recruiting argument holds no water with me.
The Pelini Brothers are using mostly Callahan players on the Husker Defense and went from something like the 111th or 114th ranked Defense to the 9th ranked Defense in two years. Granted they had a precipitous decline in offense during that time period, but that's a whole different can of worms.
I will however admit that it appears that Cincinnati is giving up roughly the same amount of points this year compared to last year, when the Bearcats were in the top 20 for least yards against them.
They are giving up 20.8 pts this year and gave up 20.2pts last year.

Also Tim Brown and a host of ND grad have said the same thing tonight on ESPN. They like him as a coach, but hope he brings in someone to make the defense more stout against the run and stop people from scoring at will against the Irish.

I still think Timmy was calling Kelly a douchebag for leaving, esp. before the bowl game. I realized that UC was sunk when I looked up for friggin' catholic Kelly is over Thanksgiving. I don't even know where Assumption College is, but I'll bet it's in new england and I'll bet that it's real, real catholic.
