I've seen those tongs. They are huge. Like, almost "prop from a movie about shrinking people" big.

So you're looking for a new job, then?

My Hometown is on fire this morning

NORFOLK, Neb. -- A large swath of Norfolk is being evacuated after a fire broke out around 7 a.m. at a dairy plant.

Flames were visible for several miles outside of town.

As many as 8,000 people were evacuated, the Norfolk Daily News reported.

Firefighters initially ordered a half-mile evacuation around the Protient plant, including businesses along Omaha Avenue and the Victorian Inn west of the plant.

The radius of the evacuation then was expanded to one mile.

Emergency officials were going door-to-door to make sure everyone is evacuated.

Norfolk City Administrator Al Roder said that at 8:45 a.m., the evacuation area had grown to the area to Norfolk Avenue on the north, Andy's Lake on the south, Victory Road on the east and 20th Street on the west.

"That constitutes, land-mass-wise, about a third of the city," Roder said.

Roder said it wasn't immediately clear what was burning, but the fire threatened a 30,000-gallon propane tank on the property.

Barricades were used to close off streets. The high school was ordered not to open.

Some people who had to leave their homes were going to the city auditorium, officials said.

School buses were being used to transport evacuees. The Norfolk Middle School was a secondary evacuation site.

Ten to 12 workers inside the plant also were reported evacuated.

A spokeswoman for the Norfolk Public Schools said some public schools have been evacuated, but she would not provide additional details.
