I was THRILLED last night to make ham hock and black eyed peas while drinking a cool beer. Quietly, of course, so I didn't wake the baby. Heady stuff.

What else did you put in there? I find rosemary is a nice flavor additive to a pot roast, along with the standard carrots, onions, etc.

And, slow cookers fucking rule - Dump and Stir, man. Dump And Stir.

i did the standard carrots, celery, onion thing. quartered some red potatoes, some chopped garlic and threw in a cup of merlot w/ this pot roast season pack that we had in the house. the last time i did one of these i think it was a bad combo of too much meat + not enough time. just wet, bloody luke warm meat. not good. NEVER AGAIN

I made slow cooker BBQ pork for Thanksgiving, and we had that instead of turkey. It was an excellent decision.

i love my slower cooker and i'm childless and single so... win. or lose.

That sounds amazing right now. When I was in college me and my room mate used to make pot roasts on Sundays sometimes. There were apple trees by our apartment so we used to take those and put apple slices with the roast, so fucking good.

I cooked up sausage and shrimp gumbo last night in the dutch oven, set it aside and then pour into the slow cooker on low for tonight's dinner.

I made brisket in the oven this weekend, more or less according to the same sort of recipe, and it turned out great. Only took 4 hours, too. You can do it in a slow-cooker, but it takes 7-11 that way.

Your house is fine, by the way. You're more likely to burn down your house leaving the tree plugged in.
