Actually, Dale I AM one of the smartest people on the board. I'm fucking kidding around you twat. I strung together a bunch of words that seems penetrating and deep and none of it means a goddamn thing. Congrats, either you saw through it or you reacted to it.

you're not entirely wrong though. i do have an emotional longing for Metal, but like minded individuals. i like to listen alone.

Look I don't want to derail the thread any further, it was a goof and that was all (Note: I let pass the "At one point" crack, Dale), but part of the joke was your metal threads and how you want more people on the board to listen to it the metal genre. You might listen alone but you would like to discuss it more with people on the board. We should split thread and make a Psychology of the Dale post.

And now, Beatles.

Or perennially unsatisfied, it would explain the porn certainly and the complaints about the board. Granted that's not many examples to back up the hypothesis, but it's worth exploring.

would it explain the porn? really?

Dj, you've come down with the dumb all of a sudden.

Yeah, more examples please.

Of course, I speak in jest. I'm sure in reality you're a fully formed personality that wants for nothing including self-actualization. But! If one wished to explore the Dalen character, the unrelenting and might I say, explicit and gregarious pursuit of porn and metal might suggest that you have a high libido and a need for company of like-minded individuals that is, wait for it, never satisfied or to use my parlance, someone who is 'unsatisfied'. That residual and constant hunger can cause a cognitive 'emptiness' that is often manifest on multiple levels, particularly within the affective realm, where there is also an emotional longing for what can never be achieved. The character's pursuit to fulfill his hungerous desires is unrelenting yet fruitless and is the singular feature of the personality.
[/i].

this just blew my mind

I told the wife "I downloaded that Beatles box set from the board. It's awesome."

Silence...

"I literally just bought that for you for Christmas."

"oh...sorry about that"

"You do understand it's almost a week before Christmas right?"

"Yeah but the box set comes with a book...and stuff...that's also...cool...I think..."

So do I need the stuff that comes with the albums? Keep in mind I'm not really one to sit around looking at liner notes these days. But if it's something that I HAVE to have, then I'll give her the green light I guess.

Green light, sir. I got it for Xmas too but I managed to finesse the box into my hands early and it's a beautiful set to own. A must HAVE, I'd say.

Agreed, and first album of all original material. Didn't take long.

I meant opening chord, but I guess open chord works too.

Everything happens so fast in this song. John's singing, and then Paul's singing and then back to John all seamlessly and without pause for a breath. And love that cow bell.

toots on A Hard Days Night...

a killer opening with The 12-String Guitar Heard 'Round the World, a power-strum that never gets old. i wish it would play every time i walked out my front door.

seem to be getting more ambitious with arrangements in songs like If I Fell, experimenting with meandering augmentations and diminishments

whats with the bonking tom in Happy Just to Dance? wrong decision there, blokes

noticing some inklings of maturation in And I Love Her

Any Time...i'm gonna guess this is Lennon singing on the chorus. developing an appreciation for his rough-hewn-ness..ity...cious...

rest of the album, though solid, is more or less forgettable. or maybe im just trying to operate in too many spheres at the moment

EDIT: i see we've all covered the opening chord

This really is a Lennon outing on this album. I wonder how that happened.

1. Hard Day's Night
Awesome, once again these guys know how to kick off an album. MORE COWBELL! And yeah, that chord. "Hey look what we can do!" Starting to feel their stride and flaunting it. I forgot how much 12 string was on this.

2. I Should've Known Better
Doubled John? That doesn't sound like John and Paul in unison, it sounds like 2 Johns. Don't think that'd happened much yet at this point. Getting away from a just-about-purely-live sound to something more studio. Harmonica is less brazen than last time. This track feels like a layer is missing. It's really sparse. I suspect it would sound fuller in mono? There's too much empty space in here. Still, a catchy song.

3. If I Fell
Man, nice modal key work. Very slinky and complex, but it doesn't sound clunky or forced. It's one thing to string together a buncha complex shit, but another to make it sound easy and natural. Best part: Paul's high harmonies, even the one he chokes on at 1:46... "...was in VEEEin..."

4. I'm Happy Just To Dance With You
Hmm. This is George, no? This now sounds almost unforgivably simple and childish next to the territory they're getting into. Not jarring or anything, but the bar's being raised, and this doesn't really clear it. And yeah, that off-beat tom hit... wtf?

5. And I Love Her
Oi. It's sappy Paul but it's so damn pretty. Plucked triads on the classical are a nice touch. Not an amazing song to me, but their low points on this album so far ain't as low. I loved this song when I was 8. Best Part: key change for the guitar solo. Keepin' it fresh.

6. Tell Me Why
Oh heLLO there. Right outta the box with the 3 part harmonies. Well ok then. A little more old fashioned and poppy, but once again John makes it something worthwhile. He gets that buzzsaw saxophone sound on the chorus in his voice, like a sax with a steel mouthpiece, the sound early guitar guys were aping by slashing cabinet speakers. A little breakup. I'd kinda forgotten about this song. Favorite Part: ending sequence. Love the chords.

7. Can't Buy Me Love
Famous for a reason. Hard to hear with fresh ears, but I can still see why it did so well. Favorite Part: "Saaaay you don't need no diamond rings" at 0:54. Paul pushes the vocals hard for once and it sounds good. Love the way that line bleeds over from the one before it that time through.

8. Any Time At all
More greatness from John. More modals on the chords. Fluffy lyrics, but a great chorus. Favorite Part: that bizarre breakdown at 1:30. I guess you gotta do something to break up the middle, right? Interesting choice. Then it's right back to business.

9. I'll Cry Instead
This feels like more Buck Owens love. Those guys dug them some SoCal Cowboy. I wanna swap out George's ES335 or whatever for a tele. Serviceable but not one I'll reach for.

10. Things We Said Today
Maybe my favorite of the album. That short little chorus ("Someday when we're dreaming, deep in love, not a lot to say") makes my ball hairs stand up. It's not a perfect song or anything, but for some reason this one makes me stop and pay attention. I find myself wanting to cover it, just for those 2 lines. Singing harmonies like that is sorta what makes it all fun. Yeah I kinda love this song.

11. When I Get Home
I don't think I've ever heard this song before somehow. It reminds me a little of the stomp and anger that's coming on the White Album. Am I crazy? "OHG, we got a whole lotta things to 'tell' her when we come home..." Song is essentially "stop talking to me so I can go home and fuh my girl." Some themes echo through the ages.

12. You Can't Do That
Meh. LESS COWBELL.

13. I'll Be Back
I've always loved this song to some degree. I can't be partial. This goes back to 3rd or 4th grade. Instead of playing outside and doing fun shit (or homework), I had headphones on. Love the minor/major interplay and the huge harmonies.
