Saw this tonight. One of the few John Sayles movies I haven't yet seen and it is another strong entry in his catalogue--actually one of his best. Sayles may be my favorite writer/director over the past twenty five years.

Really like this. Too bad the pressing on the DVD is for crap. Did you see Bonnie Prince Billy?

Yeah, the 17 year-old Oldham was quite good in this.

pretty slight movie but good enough to be an entertaining 90 minutes

That's kind of how I feel about all the Mike Judge movies. Entertaining, but not much beyond that.

last night i watched 8 1/2. i get it. i know why it was made. i know why it won a lot of awards. i know why it's so revered. but i had some difficulty really enjoying it. i suppose that's not so rare for an american in 2009 to feel about an italian movie from 1963.

Saw this for the first time in what seems like forever. Still interesting, but probably on par with Lost Boys as far as vampire flicks go. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who you probably know from directed Point Break. The story here is very cool, with it being set in the southwest. Wish they would've played off it more than just having Bill Paxton kill someone with a spur.

i think it deserves more credit than what you're giving it.

Last night I saw Antichrist... Lars Von Thier's "lovely" film about a baby's abuse and death, the parents' mutual genital mutilations, 16th century research on the oppression of women, pop psychology and supernatural forests. The first two thirds of the film was visually, technically powerful. Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg give skillful performances. But ultimately the last chapter is so relentlessly and ludicrously full of emetic darkness it actually became funny to me. And not in a good way.

This is the Hong Kong movie that The Departed was based on. the structure was basically the same with there being one mob mole in the police and one police mole in the mob. While I still liked the departed better, this was definitely worth seeing. The movie is shorter and moves at a quicker pace, with more subtle and believable characterization, than the departed.

I liked Infernal Affairs more than The Departed, great flick.

I love that tag-line, shiv..."Talk on the Phone, Finish Your Homework. Watch TV. Die" I've gotta see that.

I watched the Hangover again this weekend. My favorite part is still the pictures at the end, but in the theater it had more effect.

Watched Double Indemnity for the first time last night...I needed to go to bed, but I couldn't turn it off. What a great movie.

I started watching this last night, but had to give up on it about five minutes in. I wasn't expecting it to be good, but it was probably the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Although it was kinda funny watching Cam'ron pissing on a guy while saying no homo over and over.

OK, I have an excessive amount of free time right now so I'll give it another shot later today and then post back about what I think about the entire film

That reminds me (for some reason), I finally tried to watch Christmas on Mars a few weeks ago, but I didn't make it past about 15 minutes in.

I don't know if I'll ever try to finish it.

the confrontation with the little girl is hilarious.

it just sort of peters out at the end though.

I decided to re-watch Lost before it comes back. I just finished the first season and remembered a lot more about it than I thought I would. Definitely interesting watching it a second time, though.

Alright finished it and you were right. By any standard criteria it was a terrible movie, but there is something about Cam'ron's world view that is so bizarre that made it interesting. The scene where he spits on the little girl made it all worth it. It was like a 2 hour long commercial for sizzurp.

i wanted to like this more than i actually did. ben foster is great, as usual, but the story kind of gets a little lifetime movie of the week. the notification scenes are the best part of it. i really didn't buy the romance between ben and samantha morton. it felt a little forced. it was worth a viewing though. and hey, if you want to see jena malone naked, it happens within the first 2 minutes.
