It's got potential, but I have to admit I didn't laugh. I'll tune in again to watch, though. I think some of the characters and gags might be too close to the original to have the same impact for those who know the series well.

I had never seen an epsiode of the original, so I went in fresh.

However, i have set up my Tivo to get the whole first season on BBC-A this Saturday.

Best done scene was when the two guys in love with the receptionist were standing at her desk and just kept standing there.

Great "dude, I know what the fuck is going on but I'll be fucked if I'm gonna say it" moment.

I thought it was good (not great) and i've been known to spout off about how much i love the british version.

I liked it. I've never seen the original either, though.

glad to see that it isn't being universally panned. i think the idea of the original is solid and creative enough to be at least do-able in another culture.

and if i had tivo, i'd be watching it right now. alas...i was at the studio. argh. totally missed it.

yeah, ditto. but that guy from 6 feet under is as close to overexposed as a character actor can be. it's hard to see the jokes that they are taking verbatim independent from the admittedly funny new stuff. i'll give it a shot.

you know this kind of humor isnt going to be successful with the general public. unfortunately, i give it 3 more episodes before it gets cancelled :(

I disagree with that, considering a good deal of that general public works in offices similar to the one on the show. I think it will be a grower hit and will spark all kinds of offbase "is this a return to quality television" articles (though there always has been quality television -- cancelled, but quality). This will be a work-place Seinfeld-level show for the second half of this decade, though I think it will only have steam for about three seasons.

I would guess only 10% of the population in my area works in an office.

I live in one of the most rural areas in the country and more than 10% still work in offices.

It depends on how you define 'office'. I'm a grad student, so I was in the lab a lot, but my desk was, by definition, in a large office type setting with desks and cubicles and annoying characters.

Too much like the original, which I love. Same love triangle already set up, and some of the same gags (like making the receptionist cry over a prank that went too far). Plus, so far I haven't felt sympathy for the main guy like I did David Brent, and I didn't laugh.

I'll give it another shot, but I'm not optimistic at this point.

same here. i found carrell to be overly obnoxious than his english counterpart. but because i'm a fan of the show, i'll keep watching.

I TiVO'ed it and will will see it tomorrow.
The BBC version is one of my favorite Television shows of ALL TIME so it will be interesting. I have seen every episode like 3 times so I will be very observant!

Exactly what I thought. Not only were they some of the same gags, the lines were verbatim from the original. I made the comment to my girlfriend that I felt like I was watching a high school play of Shakespeare. It's not that it was bad or poorly acted necessarily but I've already seen it so it didn't really do anything for me like it did the first time. I'll give it another shot though.

For me, something the original did brilliantly was make me feel so uncomfortable. I felt so bad for most of the characters and some of the moments of awkwardness made me physically sick to my stomach. I just don't see this version quite having the same effect.

I thought the first episode was awful but I know I would have found it hilarious if I hadn't seen the original.

Yep, this was my feeling too. Nothing has the same quality as first experience.

I think this would have been good if I didn't know the whole story arc already. I laughed once or twice.

The Tim guy (I know, he's called something else...whatever) is not the actor the old Tim guy was. IMHO.

In an article I read yesterday, it said that the rest of the season doens't borrow as heavily from the British version and that the story lines are quite different.

I haven't seen the British version so I wasn't sure how close this one was.

I thought it was all right, probably good enough to get me to watch again But if it doesn't get better I'll probably give up after 3 or 4 episodes.

I liked the episode on Myspace, but I didn't like the pilot much.

The show seems a lot more acted out than the BBC version, which was very natural. I guess I can get over that, eventually.

I'm hoping to like the show, though, as it's the only way to get more episodes of The Office.
