I was just singing
"Crazy Train"
to myself this morning and two things occurred to me:
1. The lyrics suck a big bag of wet pubic hair.
2. This is a truly great song, despite that fact.

I'm having a hard time thinking of other songs like that, but I'm sure that there are many. Probably something from The Sweet or somebody like that?

maybe i'm missing the point of the lyrics, but "Life on Mars" always seemed a little goofy to me.

MacArthur Park. Either the greatest or worst.

Quote:
Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed,
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants

[Chorus]
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down...
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees

[Chorus]

There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one.

I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky.
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why.

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down...
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
Oh, no
No, no
Oh NO!!

Every song by Elton John with lyrics by Bernie Taupin.

And this opening premise is flawed, because "Crazy Train" isn't a good song in any respect.

Exactly.

Also:
Thin Lizzy - "The Cowboy Song
Quote:
I am just a cowboy lonesome on the trail
a STARRY night,the CAMPFIRE light
The coyote call, and the howling winds wail
So I'll ride out to the old sundown

I am just a cowboy lonesome on the trail
Lord, I'm just thinking about a certain female
The nights we spent together riding on the RANGE
Looking back it seems so strange

Roll me over and turn me around
Let me keep spinning till I hit the ground
Roll me over and let me go
Riding in the rodeo

I was took in Texas I did not know her name
Lord, all these southern girls seem the same
Down below the border in a town in Mexico
I got my job busting broncs for the rodeo

Roll me over and turn me around
Let me keep spinning till I hit the ground
Roll me over and let me go
Running free with the buffalo
Here I go

Roll me over and I'll turn around
And I'll move my fingers up and down
Up and down

It's ok amigos
Just let me go
Riding in the rodeo

Roll me over and turn me around
Let me keep spinning till i hit the ground
Roll me over and let me go
Riding in the rodeo
Roll me over and set me free
The cowboy's life is the life for me

Can't think of any...crap lyrics pretty much disqualify any song from being great. I was going to list a few of the gems off Talking Heads '77, but the ones with crap lyrics are crap songs. The great songs from that rekkid have great lyrics.

"Psycho Killer" leaped to mind for me too. But, yeah, kind of a crap song anyway.
