The only one I've read is Our Band Could Be Your Life and recommend it highly. The 33 1/3 book on Celine Dion is supposed to be well done too.

I got a Chapters gift card for Christmas so this list is very helpful. Thanks!

Curious to read a few of those, can't recommend Chronicles or Our Band Could Be Your Life highly enough. I preferred Sex Drugs and Cocoa Puffs to the Klosterman book they listed.

Can't believe they left out The Dirt (Motley Crue) and the Slash bio, those two are priceless and I don't even like either of those bands.

Was just about to write the same thing. The Dirt is ridiculously sick and amusing. My wife couldn't believe I was reading a book about Motley Crue, but I couldn't put it down.

You got it for me for Christmas one year.

It's insanely detailed; breaking down his life into months at a time by chapter.

It's 750 pages long but the last 100 pages are literally his list of sources for all the quotes.

Took me forever to read. Certainly the most definitive book on him out there.

Our Band Could Be Your Life is excellent, and I've given it as a gift to many friends since I read it.

I can't remember if people didn't like it, or that Zevon bio, or the Basement Tapes book. For some reason I feel like there was a postings around the same time about all those, so they're becoming jumbled, as far as quality, in my head. Is it out in paperback?

i'd rate it as ok. it had some funny shit but most of the stories I had heard before. i did like how the author mostly interviewed people who were there at the time.

I'd rate the Zevon book as good and informative but not great or essential. I was most entertained by the outrageous OCD stories after he got sober but that's just me.

I forgot all about that Basement Tapes book.
