DONG!!! Send 'er over.

And Dale, I was thinking something similar, but it was in response to the average amount of "friends in common" I have with Obs on FB. It appears we have between 40 and 50 regulars. As I have said many times before I think part of the problem is that many people really want content fed to them, other try to create.

DJ, Bloor and I have a 50 page thread on The Dead that you posted in at least 10 times to say how stupid we were....

I will say this - that XX album brings TEH SUX0rZ. No discernible song craft, imagination, or reason for all of you bun boys to be leaking doo doo in your manties over it.

re: the bolded part - what's really the kicker is that it seems like the two dynamics have little common ground to stand on. I've tried many mouthfuls of the Spoon/DBT/yawn rock of the week and spat it all out. meanwhile I'm sure my pop punk fanaticism falls down to the 3rd page drain pretty fast. if the creators came up with something that the content hungry actually wanted to eat we'd probably have more engaging threads. these days it's just a motivated few serving up some tunes, I'm just nibbling at the buffet.

Also I agree with dalen on the 2010 leaks thread. Why can't we have this again??

It would provide a one-stop thread to post or find all new music as well as expose more people to music they might normally never hear if it were in a thread called "this band-new album" that ended up with 10 views and 1 reply.

Why don't you guys start the thread then? But call it something less attractive to the web sheriff than "2010 Leaks" - call it something no outsider will ever read like "Grateful Dead Appreesh" or "Borg's Top 20" or "Mike Doughty".

leak thread would be good. Except its destroyed half the boards I've attended because everyone just takes the music and doesn't discuss it.

Why blame the tools? Blame the carpenter.

Why don't you guys recruit some new blood from Hipinion since you are so enamored?

Wasn't there a new poster in this thread that you all swiftly ignored?

This is largely always this case though. Either they come in meek and get ignored or come in strong and get stomped.

What "this board needs new posters" means is that they want new female posters they can fantasize about boning on some sort of stained mattress in their basement.

Dave is right about content generators vs reactors. Rparis is maybe the best reaction shot guy around but what's the last thread he started? No knock on Rognee, but if the balance shifts too far that way we get this... A board full of talented snarky one liner artists waiting for slow ones over the plate.

Also shit was VERY different when nobody knew anyone else. Much easier to misinterpret people and get into a pissing contest when you haven't had beers in person.

Also, the Old.

Yeah, maybe it works on hipinion - probably just due to the shear volume of posters and how much free time they seem to have - but most other places I've seen, including here, leaks do not lead to more discussion. It's not like this board has been suffering from a lack of free music to talk about.

It comes down to basic reinforcement once again. One common complaint that pops up often is that people post a new thread and it sinks with few to no replies. Unless you're pathological, you're probably going to stop doing it if you're consistently ignored.

What if we had a mix exchange where everyone got paired up with someone random and made a mix for them, but instead of downloading it they had to send an actual cd, and then there could be a thread reviewing them. I remember us doing this a couple of years ago and it being pretty successful, also I think that if I had a physical cd I'd be more inclined to listen to it and write about it.

I think most people are done with sending physical mix cd's through the mail when you can easily just zip one up, upload it, then post a link to download it.
