I am absolutely in love with this album. Have been listening to it non-stop for a couple of days.

"white sky" is extremely derivative of paul simon's "truth" which was obviously derivative back then.

I don't know, Vampire Weekend just doesn't do it for me.

The debut did nuthin' for me. This one has at least some interesting songs on it. Worth a listen anyhow. The band was obviously hit over the head with Simon's Graceland/Rhythm of the Saints albums, but the songs with less on the sleeve influence sound pretty good.

Are any of you good folk Rapidshare "Premium" subscribers?

I'm not and I've gotten NUTH through them all day today.

Say Goodbye to What is the new limited 7" single from London producer Bullion, officially due out on January 25. Edition of 40, but as of right now, only 6 remain (EDIT: sold out), and purchase of the 7" comes with immediate 320/FLAC download. The a-side is more of the hauntingly catchy, sample-laden (Klaus Nomi in this case) psych-pop that this dude does so well.

Eels album is OK; nothing spectacular but enjoyable. Liars, on the other hand, did not grab me on first listen.

Local Natives are an L.A. five piece that have drawn comparisons to Fleet Foxes due to their harmonizing melodies; however, I would think of this band as their rocking cousins, blending their harmonies with some rapid beats and twisting guitar parts. The end result may be made from familiar pieces–a little Grizzly Bear here, a little Animal Collective or Yeasayer there–, but put it all together you get something that sounds fresh and, at least at first listen, memorable. The first single, “Sun Hands,” is below, and offers up a nice representative slice of what to expect on their debut album, Gorilla Manor, which will be out in the U.S. via Frenchkiss on February 16 (adding to an already stacked first two months of the year), while those living in the UK can already pick it up.

How is that new Yeasayer? I heard a single right before I left and was not impressed. I really liked their other record though.

Bringing down that Grouper/Ray Montgomery right now. Looking forward to hearing this. Thanks for the link Dalen.

the Yeasayer is, hmmm, poppy. I actually kind of dig it. Just listened to it again on the way home.

I'll pull it down also and give it a listen after I get back from work (big day today, nervous as shit though that has no bearing on anything). Like I said, I was really impressed with that All Hours Cymbals record they did. It was kind of poppy but in reality it wasn't too far removed from what HEALTH was doing. Replace the shrieks with some harmonies, tone down the abrasion, add some groove and it was there. I kind of thought it was a nice clean take on some very far out there ideas, similar to my thoughts on MPP. I'm always impressed by albums that show rather complicated ideas and display them in a very digestable way, I'm hoping they pulled that off again on this one.

Retribution Gospel Choir is a rock trio founded in 2007. The group features Alan Sparhawk on guitar and vocals, Steve Garrington on bass and Eric Pollard on drums and vocals. Alan also fronts the band Low with his wife, Mimi Parker, and Steve also plays bass in Low. 2 is Retribution Gospel Choir’s 2nd full-length and Sub Pop debut! Eric Swanson recorded these performances at Sacred Heart Studio in Duluth, Minnesota, and Matt Beckley mixed the recordings at Faux Rock in Sherman Oaks, California.

Damn Dalen, you are all over this. Appreciate this much man. Sidenote related to Low here. My bunkmate here in the 'Stan is a big country guy, good country though, digs Lyle Lovett, Junior Brown, Patty Griffin, decent stuff honestly. He's always asking about the music I have, so I tried to plow through my laptop and find some stuff for him, ultimately resulting in him listening to that Low/Dirty 3 record from way back. Dude absolutely loved it. I assume it was more for the Dirty 3 sound, but regardless, it made me happy. Have since hooked him up with some Jack Rose, Fahey, Glenn Jones, Adam Snider, and some Oldham stuff and kid is all over it. So, long story short, slowcore band opens up ears of americana fan, and rest of tent gets driven crazy on a nightly basis now.

Good stuff, and as with everything else, I am looking forward to hearing that Retribution Gospel Choir. Thanks again man.

I pre-ordered this. I listened to the stream that Sub Pop sent me. I'm really excited. This is really great.

I went through it once and was astounded at how boring it was.

I completely agree. I really like their first two albums, but this one bored me to tears.
