Obner suffers from the modern palsy of thinking it has some great untapped potential for brilliance when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.

I was thinking about this. When I first joined the board there were two awesome groups of people: Chicago and Boston. In particular there was one guy who seemed to really have it going on: KPHaley 454! I was digging his mojo with a pretty big shovel. He was in a band, a really cool band, and really liked DJ Shadow. Chicago had good people too, and we all went to fun shows at Schuba's like The Paper Airline Pilots! OH MAN, It was SOOOO COOL.

Then one day this loudmouth braggart who was neither a part of Chicago, or Boston crews, yet from the vast wasteland known as THE SOUTH joined the board. He was really mean. He brought his mean friends, like Yail Bloor, who was even meaner than him!

Then CMJ board died. And it was really all over at that point. I have been working on a 15 minute story song ala American Pie to explain it all, but I couldn't fit it on my last CD. Maybe someday!

Is it too soon to say I already hate the fresh blood?

So for what it's worth, I don't come around much any more because I feel sort of like I am an outsider. Everyone here seems to know each other so well its like I am stopping by a union bar and trying to join a conversation already well in progress. Its tough to get involved.
I used to have shit-tons of free time. And, true: I have facebook. I miss the threads that pointed out obscure, up til they get pulled blogs with treasure troves of cool tunes for the asking. I miss Dale posting RIYL links to whatever embryonic band he is into this week. The Libertines---yes!
I still listen to the slow-core monger mixes ya'll made one year. I loved when we all sent CDs to one another, getting those down in Belize was SO cool. Maybe because I live up here in Seattle and can see music any night of the week things are different?
I feel like it might be that most Indie music recently has gotten really derivative of itself. Side project of a side project of Bearwolfgrizzlyjacket: whatever.
And we're getting older....
