"lullabies to paralyze" isn't really doing much for me. i like it, but in a passive, "don't really care if ya switch the station" way.

I've put this on repeat, and it is all I'll listen to today, unless they show Duke cheerleaders crying, in which case I'll switch to the tube.

I love you man, this comp is classic. 'Squeeze' is one of my all time favourite songs. 'Suicide' is pretty funny too, rather anachronistic though - they put up anti-suicide barriers on Grafton bridge, I know because I walk across it almost everyday.

Yeah, this thing has been rocking my world all day. I've got about a third of it on other comps, including the Proud Scum tracks.

I also got "Get A Haircut" which has some absolutely kick-ass NZ rock beginning in '59 and ending up in '01. The older stuff like Johnny Devlin and Clyde Scott are tremendous.

Cheers!

Right now I'm trying to make it through a Rush concert on VH1 Classic just to see if I can do it.

So far....uh...they're amazing...musicians, as always.

Too bad about the whole "not adding up to actual songs" bit they've had going all these years.

In my life, I swear to god, I have never, ever, understood Rush. I just don't get the appeal. Maybe it's the music, I just don't know.....

Well the actual guitar-bass-drum are technically more accomplished than just about anyone who's ever played. But they've never had much of any harmonies, background vocals, hell, much actual melodies to speak of, which makes their proficiency blur into this big, dull mass of remarkable playing, without any real songs, with the exception of the occasional semi-pop "Closer To The Heart" kinda thing.

Lee's voice is and always has been nearly unbearable, I think. He's no Jon Anderson, but keeps trying to hit Anderson notes.

Oh, but hey, VH1-C just played TFF's "Pale Shelter," so I'm fine now.

Yeah, from what I've understood, from querying people in the past regarding their love of this band, it generally is the musical ability that amazes them. I've just always been fascinated by hearing people exclaim "Rush has a new album coming out!" No disrespect to the band, obviously they're Canadian icons and all that and clearly talented, but I'd rather snatch my fucking eyes from my face than hear a Rush song.

Rush were the "in" band to like when I was in JH and early HS. I knew their "hits" and not much else.

An old girlfriend once said that she had never met a fan of Rush who wasn't also in to D&D. She considered these people borderline psychotics.

I think we might -- I mean, you might -- have just cracked the case of the disappearances which inspired At the Drive-in's "Invalid Letter Dept.". Cedric and/or Omar were capturing the women themselves, killing them, and dumping them. Then, they wrote a song about it.

Braggarts.
