I'm finally listening to it after downloading it a few days ago.
If I had been waiting several months for this album to leak, I would be incredibly pissed.
It isn't bad, and is probably an improvement from five GA, but it isn't blowing my mind.

This is another of those attitudes I just don't get. Why would you expect a new Spoon album to "blow your mind"? Why would you expect Spoon to be anything other than Spoon - and why would you be disappointed if (as you said) the new album is an improvement over the last one?

And, really, what album actually does "blow your mind"?

Valid points, and as a person on this board who doesn't worship this band, I should have expressed it better. I'd really have to contemplate on what the last album to really blow my mind upon first listen, but for me there seems to be a track in the early part of certain albums that grabs me and sets the tone for the rest of the record.
I didn't really expect Spoon to be any different than Spoon, but I will say that the differences in Spoon on this album from 5 ga are probably what makes it better.
I personally would be disappointed if I was a true Spoon fan due to the overall high expectations I was sensing from F-You Dave and other folks who really, really love this band. They still seem to love this album, and that's great for them, I'd just be personally disappointed if I was waiting on an album like this. Sort of like my initial disappointment with the Monsters of Folk album. IMO, an album can be an improvement but still be rather disappointing

it's not that they should change their sound, it's that they should write some better music.

i guess i'm not down with being mediocre. Spoon are entering U2 territory.

Spoon have rested on their laurels since Gimme Fiction. A shame really as KTM was one of the best, most interesting albums of the last decade.

You know as much about this band, hell about music in general, as you know about pussy. Get over yourself.

Translation: KTM was the first Spoon album you heard, and they were still sufficiently obscure enough back then to garner your typically superficial appreciation.

Now stop being such a fucking troll.

I don't understand your reasoning. Since when is simply being yourself considered resting on your laurels? What would you rather them do?

Three tracks in and already I feel like I can put that shrill, GA^5 atrocity behind me. This is a much more patient effort.
