I was just going to post this.
I can't wait to kick his ass a few times. One of his best Auburn teams could barely beat a mediocre Nebraska team coached by Callahan in the Cotton Bowl a few years back. I think a lot of Auburn's success during the Tuberville era can be attributed to Chizik, since they sort of folded after he left for Texas.
I don't really understand this hiring, although I knew it was coming when he expressed interest in it. They fired Leach because he rubbed the administration the wrong way and they wanted to save some dough while they could fire him with cause. Now they are hiring a coach who's probably asking for similar dough. The only thing that separates him and Leach is that he's probably smart enough to kiss some ass and display some southern hospitality to his bosses.

You're judging a coach who won the SEC and had an undefeated season by his team's performance in a meaningless fucking exhibition game? Boy, you've gone ignorant.

Edit: He also had Muschamp in addition to Chizik

Seriously. WTF? Ever think they were let down that they had to play a shitty Nebaraska team after going 10-2??

Also, Tuberville was great at Ole Miss long before the Auburn gig. Dude can just coach. Period. His teams will be prepared and physical as fuck.

If you think Tuberville can't handle the game (boosters, presidents, etc) in Lubbock then you didn't follow the whole story of his last 2 years at Auburn.

No I simply mentioned the Cotton Bowl, I judged it based on his post Chizik era. I'll give him credit for winning the SEC and the unbeaten season, but including his short tenure at Ole Miss, he's basically been a 7-5 coach.

No, I said that was one of the reasons he was actually a good pick for the job. That's a skill he has over Leach.

Whoa.

Georgia Tech is possibly close to a deal with Al Groh to coach their Defense.

Can't say I like that one damn bit.

He did, and I give him props for it, but he's also the guy who fired an OC he personally brought to install a spread scheme half way through the season in an attempt to save himself.

And again no disrespect to Tuberville, but Texas Tech is a way worse school to recruit to than Ole Miss or Auburn. I just see him ending up like Franchione at Texas A&M sans scandal.

I said this would happen earlier in this thread. Saban had a history of losing his DCs at LSU (actually, he loses all of his assistants quite frequently).

Oregon State athletic director Bob DeCarolis is prepared to offer football coach Mike Riley a lifetime contract to remain at the school as a preemptive move against any offer USC could make to Riley if Pete Carroll does leave for the NFL next week, according to a report in the Oregonian.

"Mike's said he wants to be the Joe Paterno of Oregon State," DeCarolis told the Oregonian. "So we'll put something together to make [his contract] a lifetime deal."

The report notes that USC has not formally asked permission to speak with Riley. Carroll has not accepted an offer to coach the Seattle Seahawks but his hiring is expected Sunday or Monday.

As soon as news of Carroll's involvement with Seattle surfaced Friday morning, Riley's name was mentioned as possible successors.

He was a finalist for the job in 2000, when USC hired Carroll.

A person close to Riley told ESPNLosAngeles.com on Friday that he "would definitely be interested'' in the USC job, should Carroll indeed leave, but that "he's also in a good position at Oregon State and likes his life in Corvallis."

The decision, the source said, "would be a tough one."

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia linebacker Rennie Curran said Sunday he'll enter the NFL draft, the second member of the Bulldogs' defense to leave school a year early.

The 5-foot-11, 225-pound Curran led the Southeastern Conference with 130 tackles this past season and was named to The Associated Press All-SEC team. He finished his three-year career with 298 tackles.

Curran follows safety Reshad Jones, who announced last week that he's giving up his final year to enter the draft.

"This has been a really difficult decision," said Curran, a native of suburban Atlanta. "I love the Bulldogs and my time at Georgia has been great. But weighing all the factors over the last couple of weeks, I finally reached the decision Saturday that entering the NFL draft this year is the right decision for me at this time."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 8, 2010

A CHAMPION IS CROWNED AFTER ANOTHER SPECTACULAR REGULAR SEASON

BCS Championship Game Gets 18.2 Television Overnight Rating -- Higher than Last Year

With Alabama earning the BCS Championship and the number one ranking in every other major poll, the BCS group is highlighting another spectacular season of college football.

“Every year we wonder how college football could possibly get better—and yet it just keeps doing so,” said Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the Bowl Championship Series. “This game is thriving, which is a strong sign that the combination of the meaningful regular season and the celebratory and traditional bowl system is best for the game.”

The Crown Jewel of College Football – the Regular Season.

From week one to the conference championship games and every week in between, the 2009 college football season delivered another dramatic rollercoaster ride. Every week, fans were treated to games with national title implications. Every game counted--from the Alabama-Virginia Tech and Boise State-Oregon matchups the first weekend, through the rise of TCU and Iowa in the rankings, to the blocked field goal in the Alabama-Tennessee showdown, to the compelling final Saturday when Alabama, Texas and Cincinnati earned their way into BCS bowls.

Bowl Television Ratings Increased Over Last Year

The Citi BCS National Championship Game drew an overnight rating of 18.2, higher than the 15.82 rating from last year’s Florida-Oklahoma game.

The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl game between TCU and Boise State drew a rating of 8.2, the fifth-highest rating among the 12 non-championship BCS games that Fox aired over the past four years, although down 21 percent from last year’s Texas-Ohio State game.

The FedEx Orange Bowl rating was 6.8 for Iowa and Georgia Tech, up 26 percent from last year.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl game between Cincinnati and Florida earned an 8.5, up 9 percent from last year.

The Rose Bowl presented by Citi, Oregon vs. Ohio State, earned a 13.8 overnight rating, up 10 percent from last year.

*Ratings represent the percentage of all households with televisions tuned into a program.

Access

For the 12th straight year by BCS measurements and the ninth time in 12 years by AP measurements, the number one and number two teams met in the BCS National Championship game. Also, the BCS bowls featured the top ten teams in the final BCS Standings. And for the first time, two teams from non-automatic qualifying conferences earned BCS bowl berths.

Revenue

Official data will not be available until the spring, but unofficial figures show that the five conferences that have not earned automatic qualification into the BCS are expected to share a record $24.1 million because of TCU’s and Boise State’s participation in BCS bowl games. (Those five conferences have chosen to share the revenue).

Each of the six conferences with automatic qualification (ACC, Big East, Big 12, Big 10, Pac-10 and SEC) are expected to receive approximately $17.9 million in net revenue. The SEC and Big Ten, with two teams in the BCS games, will receive an additional $4.5 million.

The Final Word

Terrence Cody, the Alabama nose guard, was asked by the Associated Press about a playoff earlier in the week. His reply was as follows:

"That's stupid. I don't think there should be any playoff. Why should there be a playoff?”

Georgia Tech juniors Morgan Burnett, Jonathan Dwyer and Derrick Morgan have all decided to forgo their senior seasons and will enter the NFL draft, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com.

The three are expected to announce their decisions at 1 p.m. ET today.

The departures will be a significant hit to Georgia Tech's hopes at repeating as ACC champs in 2010. Dwyer was the team's leading rusher with 1,395 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Morgan, a defensive end, was the team's top defender.

This appears to be good news for the UGA fans. Not that they did much this year to stop Georgia from winning this past season.
