Dale, if you're still listening to Surfer Blood in March, I'll buy you those beers in Atlanta you referenced on FB.

The 2 or 3 Surfer Blood songs I've heard are just not that good. I know that means Dale has to take it as a personal slap in the face, but I'ma still say it. Really simple, not much new going on, playing is kinda sloppy (and not really in an endearing way), just a coupla chords and some percussion with shouted lyrics over it, mostly about water. Seems like a solid B- album that would get some nods and then fade away, and maybe in a few more albums they'd turn it into something worth getting a chubby over, but this... this isn't it. I don't get what makes this so goddam amazing, and I don't think it's just me.

why does it have to sound "new"? sometimes it's just better to be "great".

and yeah, from your comments, you haven't really listened.

Point granted, it doesn't have to sound "new" -- as the musical leanings of Dumpjack and Rads will certainly attest. But if it sounds a lot like other stuff but doesn't exceed them in some great way, then it just sounds kinda derivative.

Haven't heard the whole album, no, absolutely not. But the 2 singles that they chose to play on KEXP and that folks here have linked, I can hum right now without clicking on a link, and I last heard them yesterday. So I heard both several times and paid attention. I got their hooks, I just didn't find them as pointy as you did. Like I said, I'm not bashing them - only in your world of pitch-black metal t shirts and crystaline white ejaculate is something either THE BEST EVER or utterly clownable. 99.999% of music falls somewhere in the middle, but making those distinctions is hard, and sometimes I think you just don't try.

also, notice how you didn't have an album to post about in this thread?

ya know why? because you're lame. also because you aren't enthusiastic about music. you're enthusiastic about taking pics of people on a bus.

How did you make it 12 whole days before starting a thread about the best of '10?

i just thought it'd be interesting to see how this list progresses over the year, instead of just at the end of the year.

In the future, when I mention for the 10th, 11th, and probably 29th time that you treat music enjoyment like a contest, remember this sentence.

You haven't the faintest idea what other people like, or how they like it. You know how YOU like stuff, how YOU show enthusiasm, how YOU get into an album, but you can't even imagine that there's any other way. You have no shades of grey, no subtelty, and no finesse. It would much easier for everyone here if you'd just grin and cop to it. It's how you've decided to define yourself - that guy who REALLY FUCKING DIGS MUSIC, and that's cute, but come on. It's not a territory you can stake out and piss on.

Dalen Wrote:

oh the thread's over? One page and she's done? And nobody can comment on your choice unless they agree? If you'd just post the rules, it would be easier.

Beach House is the only record so far that I consider "good" beyond just "a good couple tracks"

And if that new Strokes album drops, I will giggle like a school girl.

If I had to choose solely based off of what I have listened to, then it would be Beach House - Teen Dream. Hands down. A moderately close second would be the Broken Bells album. But, I hope there is something else that comes along that is either as good or better than this Beach House record.
