So what villain is Thomas Haden Church going to play?

I'm leaning towards Hobgoblin but that seems kind of weird because at the end of 2 it was pretty much assumed that Harry Osborn would take up the Green Goblin persona.

that's mad lame. i would think that it would be venom just because they have to do venom and carnage before the franchise wears out. i suspect that this nexr one will setup the guy that becomes venom as an alliance or friendly character and make hobgoblin the bad guy, bringing the friend back as venom in spiderman4.

that'd be kinda queer if venom was spidey's pal.

spidey deserves friends. he's an ok guy. his aunt is deserving.

I mean c'mon.

I don't know how they can logically set up Venom's character within 1-2 movies. It works in the comics because they have all the time in the world to set up bizarre scenarios that lead to interesting events or characters, but movies are usually limited to 2-3 hours each.

But hey, that's why I'm not a screenwriter.

And Sandman wil die or be jailed. Until. the franchise stops pumping out money, the Green Goblin's kid will be in the background but be present. It's still about the Green Goblin tho as the primary villian.

Whoa. I'd have to disagree big time. Spiderman 2 could not have been more perfect.

in the commentary for spiderman they said that they had written a part for Doc Oc in SM 1 but cut it out because it just wasn't doing Doc Oc justice to be tacked on as a 2nd villian. Also, the Black Cat had a major role in SM2 before she got cut so more quality time could be spent developing the main characters. So i say SM3 will be SM vs. Hobgoblin with the Black Cat in there too for a little craziness with SM and MJ Watson.

and i think that should be it. those new Batman movies started sucking when they put Batman against like 3 villians at a time. i mean, nothing obviously was going to outshine jack as the joker, but when they just started plopping in villians and sidekicks and these other bullshit side characters the plot got paper thin and movies sucked big time.

That explains why Black Cat is so prominent in the SM2 video game (I think they start in on the games way before the movie is done filming).

Church is way too goofy to be Venom's alter-ego. I selected Mysterio because that guy's a dork and he also shows up in the SM2 game. But he's such a crappy villain. And Shocker's also in the game, and also uber-lame (though he was the villain in the first Amazing Spiderman issue I ever bought, so ups for that).

I can't wait for the Venom appearance, but I agree that it will probably just be set up in this one. And Borg, if they can introduce and kill off Doctor Octopus (who I've always thought was ALSO a lame villain - come to think of it, only Venom isn't - but who they made work in the movie) in a single movie, surely they can do Venom in 2.

I doubt Carnage will ever surface unless there are at least 5 of these.

you know what would be cool? after the Fantastic Four movie comes out, there should be an Avengers movie. THEN have a Secret Wars movie! the original crossover epic on the big screen! then they could have Venom in the Spiderman movies. that would be really cool, in theory.

An Avengers movie would be cool but then you've got the problem of having to establish the origins of at least 5 superheroes in 1 movie.

x-men had like 6 superheroes. x-men 2 was much better though.

If Sam Rami decides not go with Venom, I hope he goes with Sandman.

Reports are that he will use JJJ's son as the werewolf & hobgoblin.
It seems that it would be easier to compliment the other two films flow if he goes this route, but I'm not a fan of either.
