Barker,

My version seems to cut off at a few points. No problems from your version? Thanks...

Edit: That link is dead. Care to personally re-up?

There's a link to a 320 rip in this thread that's still active. Bottom of page 4.

I really like this new one. It sounds very much like a Spoon record, it had a slow burn before it got me, and now I can't shake it. The thing I like & respect about these guys is that they don't go from OK Computer to Kid A. The music does evolve and stand alone, but the changes are more subtle shifts or addition by subtraction. That's a tricky act to pull off. One thing I'm starting to pick up in my (probably damaged) ears is a significant American music influence. R&B was mentioned here, but I also hear little bits of Tom Petty.

But I'm of the opinion that A Series of Sneaks and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga are considerably better than Girls Can't Tell (which I like) and Kill the Moonlight (never grabbed me at all) and Gimme Fiction (never quite turned the corner, though I really like parts of it).

OK, I finally managed to listen all the way through. Wasn't blown away, though it might have potential as a grower. Nowhere near as negative a first listen as I had to KTM, which is now among my favorite Spoon albums, so it at least has a chance.

All that being said, hard to muster up much more than a meh right now.

Three listens in, it blows Gax5 out of the water.

Anyone else had trouble importing the CD?

what kind of trouble? it was very slow to rip for being a clean out of the package CD and one of the songs ends abruptly (cant remember which) is that supposed to happen?

"The Mystery Zone" is supposed to have the abrupt ending a la I Want You (She's So heavy). Finally got it imported after my mac spit it out 10+ times. This may sway the State of the CD debate for me toward full time downloading....

Mystery Zone is the only song that I'm not wild about at this point. At first, I didn't know how to take Goodnight Laura, but it's been a slow burner for me that's turning into a favorite. Out Goes the Light was so subtle I almost didn't notice it, but it's been sinking it hooks into me as well.

Anybody heard Spoon's new cover of the Damned's "love Song" yet? I guess it's on some Starbucks comp?

I really like this a lot. Much more than I expected to based on "Got Nuffin".

I was really digging this earlier today, which was about my 4th or 5th listen overall. I was digging both "Written and Reverse" and "Got Nuffin" more in the context of the album than I had just listening to stray mp3s.

Listened again over the weekend, and hard to see this escaping the basement of the Spoon canon. Uneven, and even boring at spots ("Mystery Zone," anyone?). A couple of good tunes, but not a one that would rank among their 10-20 best. Hate to say it, but after almost 15 years, they finally pinched off a turd. Happens to the best of 'em.

This I will agree with, though those are pretty much the best songs on the album.

I'm with both of these statements.

Dave, I know it is difficult now, but soon you'll realize it just isn't that good and will no longer feel the need to mention nor defend it, just like Radiohead fans had to do with Hail to the Thief.

FT is dead on with this post.

I'm kinda surprised that some of you are finding this album interesting.

I find it interesting because I like the music that Spoon makes.
