Fess up, folks. And if your answer is "yes" or "no", are you following Mom's lead?

I keep it in the fridge because the kids need it. Ironically one prefers BBQ sauce on everything and the other wants mayonnaise.

This is an excellent reason to refrigerate ketchup. If, say, one of your children preferred mustard on everything, and the other one wanted balsamic vinaigrette, you could safely store your ketchup in the cupboard.

...soooo, you're asking if people refrigerate ketchup, as opposed to asking if people buy it / use it at home...?

I refrigerate ketchup when I have it...haven't bought a bottle since the last one ran out.

I do keep butter in the cupboard though.

We don't refrigerate it, usually. Depends on the brand, though, for some reason. I dunno, I defer to the wife on that.

We keep it in the fridge.

You never see it refrigerated at restaurants though.

wouldn't this be because restaurants go through it so quickly? i might go weeks between ketchup usages, which is why it goes in my refrigerator.

I didn't because I don't believe my mom did, but i noticed my last bottle tasted funny when I last used it (La Choy maybe?). So I'm trying the fridge method now (different brand, can't remember what though).

My white gf refrigerates, but I hadn't heard of doing that until her.

Maybe in a couple years. In Shreveport. Here's what Heinz says:

Q: Do I need to refrigerate Ketchup?

A: Because of its natural acidity, Heinz® Ketchup is shelf-stable. However, its stability after opening can be affected by storage conditions. We recommend that this product, like any processed food, be refrigerated after opening. Refrigeration will maintain the best product quality after opening.
