Same question, but with soy sauce.

We don't refrigerate it, usually. Depends on the brand, though, for some reason. I dunno, I defer to the wife on that.

I didn't because I don't believe my mom did, but i noticed my last bottle tasted funny when I last used it (La Choy maybe?). So I'm trying the fridge method now (different brand, can't remember what though).

My white gf refrigerates, but I hadn't heard of doing that until her.

We haven't been refrigerating our big bottle of Kikkoman (dude, what are you doing with La Choy?), but we go through that stuff pretty fast.

I think it was the only option wherever I bought it a few years ago. Also, its probably not meant to last that long.

In college, we kept bread in the fridge so the mice wouldn't get it.

1 mo.+ in the fridge w/o mold growth (hint: mold doesn't grow well/at all at that temp).
>2 wks w/o fridge.
Science works.

I guess if you eat the shit out of bread, you wouldn't need to refrigerate
but for those of use who don't, it saves monies.

Plus I freeze a couple loaves so I don't have to endure supermarkets more than once a month.
...and butter and meat and booze.

I go in cycles where I'll eat a lot of bread (sandwiches, hot dogs, etc.) for lunch, and other times when I don't. We buy good bread, and for some reason bread goes bad fast in our place, so I always pop it in the fridge.

Plus, you haven't lived til you've had a cold pb&j. Kindergarten all over.

Refrigerated bread reminds me of my grandparents (who, incidentally, would use a plastic coffee can lid with slits cut in it as a bread closer.)

Anyway, voted yes on refrigerating ketchup, soy sauce and all other condiments save oils, vinegars and hot sauces.

One stick of butter is kept in a butter dish on the counter, the rest in the fridge.

the unrefrigerated butter stick is something i never think of until i try to make a grilled cheese sandwich and end up ravaging my bread with overly hardened butter from the fridge

A1 or Pickapeppa for burgers and steaks are the kids preference. Ketchup is usually reserved strictly for fries. Even the the chicken fingers go to a curry mustard. Ketchup has lot its sway in our family, though I know some kids pour it on everything including eggs, blech. So we keep a small bottle around.

I used to have this problem all the time. Just heat the pan first and drop in the portion of butter to use on the one side. Slather the cold piece of butter around the hot pan 'til it melts then throw the sandwich in to soak it up and get fried. Repeat for other side.
