What's everyone up to?

Adam Mowery and I are onto year three of our annual Valentine's X-travaganza. We're kickin' it Vegas / Rat Pack style saturday night and rocking a set of rowdy covers of love songs with our backing band, The Hard Feelings.

Some coverage here (and a download of a song we recorded for an appearance on CBC Radio 1 this morning).

Sunday night, my ladyfriend and I are going out to dinner at a local Thai place. Looking forward to it.

I'm off work Monday so fitting in all my Valentine plans into the day of this Sunday. So, early-ish lunch and cavorting with mistress and then dinner and such with girlfriend late. I feel kinda bad, but I think at least giving the girlfriend the dinner slot is considerate of me.

Baking sugar cookie hearts Saturday morning. Rufus Wainwright for me, from me on Saturday night.

Sunday, go to a restaurant, pretend to be stood-up? Pajama and movie day? Don't know.

My shit is set. Everything is in place.

FemD and I both love going to good restaurants but we HATE pre-fixe menus. We went to one of the best places in Atlanta last year and I called 3 weeks in advance for a rez and asked specifically if they were doing a pre-fixe and she said no.

We get there and lo and behold......pre fixe menu.

If I'm going to really check out a place, I don't like being limited, much less shelling out the scratch for something I don't really want. Also, wasn't even that impressed with that place.

So, this year, knowing V-day is on Sunday we're going out to dinner Saturday night to one of our fave places.

Sunday we're just going to stay in and cook ourselves a big breakfast and chill out. Probably hang around and watch the 500 and go see "An Education" Sunday night since she's off on Monday.

I'll wait to give her her loot until Sunday though.

I'm going to shows all this weekend.

Tonight is night three of Lincoln Exposed, a music festival designed to allow new local bands and/or old local bands that rarely play club shows perform to a wide ranging audience.
Tomorrow Night, I might go to night four of Lincoln Exposed before heading to an AIDS benefit show/album release party at Lincoln's largest gay bar. UUVVWWZ is headlining it, and one of my friends is filling in as a drummer for the opening band. I'm also going to a roller skating birthday party early in the afternoon for the hipster wife of another friend.
Sunday:
The same line-up is playing Sunday night at a different bar and for a different benefit.

Just fyi, since a lot of restaurants are onto this move, odds are 50-50 you get there only to be confronted by the prix-fixe.

We have some damn ol ball to go to tomorrow, so at least I get to break out the tux and try to drink enough to get a buzz before the baby wakes up and freaks out and we have to go home to relieve the sitter. :)

And I got her a cool silver bracelet when I was in New Mexico which will go over well enough, but be worn precisely once and dumped into a drawer.

Restaurant Eugene. We'd wanted to go for a long time and were really looking forward to it. I just wasn't that impressed. The AJC LOVES that place and their reviews say as much.

FWIW, the same people own Holeman & Finch Public House and I didn't like it very much either.

I mean, I'm no foodie and I'm probably being a little too harsh. Just wasn't blown away like I have been at other places (Rathbun's Steak or Abattoir for instance).

We're staying in and cooking our own fancy dinner. Getting some filet mignon among other stuff, I dunno, the menu's all her. Then we're just gonna smoke some and watch movies or somethin'. Really looking forward to it.

Mountain bike ride Sat., Mum to V-Day brunch Sunday. They'd better frickin' have Champagne. :rockbanana:

We've found a new trail that links up with different riding areas. A small section isn't legal yet, but to get to the whole schmear, we'll have to poach a little. Thanks, Arnie!

Well that helps me a little in deciding between Eugene and Rathbun's for our next big outing (not V-Day). I think someone was telling me that Eugene had gone downhill a little.

For comparison's sake, what do you think of Bacchanalia?
