Well that helps me a little in deciding between Eugene and Rathbun's for our next big outing (not V-Day). I think someone was telling me that Eugene had gone downhill a little.

For comparison's sake, what do you think of Bacchanalia?

I mean, certainly don't take my word for it. I think the AJC voted Eugene restaurant of the year last year.

I just didn't have a good experience.

Bacchanalia. I'm probably not the best to ask about it. I've eaten there once in my life and it was about 8 years ago, coincidentally, on Valentine's day with my ex. Freaking pre-fixe that night as well (I could be wrong but I think that's all they offer now). My impression was that it was clearly operating on a whole other level. The level of food as art. It's a chef's chef type of place. A foodie's dream. Everything I had was great and was presented beautifully but I was just left feeling that they sometimes sacrifice substance for style. I don't need to gorge myself but when I'm paying that kind of money I think a balance of substance AND style can be achieved. I might feel differently now that I've had almost a decade as an adult restaurant customer. It's certainly a place Atlanta folks should try once. I've never been to Bone's and that's on my list of places to hit up on this level albeit a different animal altogether.

Rathbun's is phenomenal. If you can, go in the Spring or Summer so their veggies are super fresh. They make this jalapeno creamed corn side that could be the best thing I've ever eaten (as a side at least). I just think he's the best chef going in Atlanta right now. If not, he's in the top 3. I'd eat what he makes off the floor.

I gotta say I actually like the pre-fixe menus most times. You get several courses and get to sample a variety of what is on offer and they usually try to put some of the more interesting items on one, and around here anyway, you usually pay less that way than you would to get several courses off a standard menu.

I wouldn't expect an ignorant wretch such as yourself to appreciate the vagaries of something like this. Have fun eating your can of Hormel Chili tomorrow after your plans get fucked.

Because your vast knowledge of French tells you that it should be a bastardized version of the phrase with an English prefix?

See what I did there?

I got back today from a debaucherous few days in Atlanta celebrating one of my friend's 30th b-day and femdisco has been in STL celebrating Mardi Gras in the Soulard district. We're planning on cooking dinner together. I bought the below wine tonight (because wine and liquor can't be purchased in Tennessee on Sunday).

I also purchased a very traditional Valentine's gift, but it's something she needs and that we both like.

Have either of you been to the Iberian Pig in Decatur yet? I just did some business with them last week and am looking forward to checking it out.

No but good lookin out. Looks qual.

Been on an ethnic kick lately outside of this great seafood joint Loog took me and Fem D too.

Been to an Indian place and a Vietnamese place in the last 3 weeks.

We've officially given up on trying to hit up all 100 of Atlanta's "best" restaurants. It was pie in the sky to begin with but now that I've been here long enough I know that that shit changes every year and it's IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with new shit opening here.

I'm down with hitting that place up as long as we do Twain's afterwards so I can school folks in bar shuffleboard.

This is the thing that sucks about living in The Gump (ok, well pertaining to this aspect of life). I would fucking LOVE to hit some Viet joints with you, but I always feel like I need to hit the hot spots when I'm in town....however rare that is these days.

Glad y'all liked Jubilee. It is probably the best restaurant in town, if only because the prime ingredient is the freshness of the fish, and they don't have to worry about sides or what have you.

We have a Vietnamese places here that does amazing Bun, Canh and Pho, but they don't do Banh Mi, despite my attempts to get the guy to. It's also super cheap, and good fer ya.

We have an Indian joint too, that is surprisingly good. A buddy of mine and I try to eat there at least once a month because we're just trying to keep it open.

Bloor, that joint looks pretty qual.

Yeah, we got the business through the Barter Company we belong to and my agent there (who eats out a lot thanks to Barter) said it is seriously good. The same people apparently own a couple of places OTP (though of course not my neck of OTP) as well.
