So, last night I had a craving for some Jameson.

Not sure why, other than the Frank McCourt pub crawl special that I saw on PBS a little while ago. Because I have never drank Jameson. And, in fact, I am not much of a drinker (especially hard liquor) at all.

But, I got a glass -- neat. And I sipped on it over the course of the night and enjoyed the hell out of it!

There is a lot of vanilla in the nose but, as it sat in my glass, it opened up to some hints of maple, as well. Just incredibly soothing and enjoyable on a February night.

Looks like I found a new favorite.

Any other whiskey drinkers here? Where should I go next, if anywhere?

Free or $3 Jamesons are my poison.

Next logical step from Jameson for me and most bars would be to Glenlivet.
So many places to visit for the first time!

The next step is Redbreast if you want really good Irish Whiskey.

Enjoy Jameson.

Here is where you should head next, and my personal favorite.

Glenlivet is Scotch and not that similar to Jamison. Go with my recommendation.

Never been much of a fan of the scotch whiskeys.

I stick with the Irish and the southern bootleggers of Tennessee and Kentucky.

For the affordable store bought stuff I like Knob Creek a lot.

I like Bushmills over Jameson. The best I've ever had at a bar was Bushmills Malt 21 year. Way out of my price range for a bottle though.

Since I don't drink much, I'll probably do with whiskey like I do with beer... just buy the expensive stuff every now and then and enjoy the hell out of it.

Loving this info! Because I don't know a damn thing about the stuff. Awesome shit.

I also sent an email to a friend of mine who is a sommellier; see what he can tell me.

Agreed. Although I've never tried Tentoze's recommendation. Don't get the glen livet recommendations, they might as well have recommended a vodka.

Your recommendation sucks.

And he didn't count out Scotch in his post.

If you can track down a bottle of this (Bushmill's Millenium Malt), I'd recommend it. You'd be shilling out around $200 - $300, but maybe a whiskey bar in Chicago would have it by the glass? I was given one as a gift late last year and it's like sipping honey. Each bottle comes from individual single casks of single malt Irish whiskey distilled in 1975 and bottled in 2000 (hench Millenium malt)

I prefer Jameson Irish whiskey over MOR Scotch whisky, but I don't have a whole lot of experience with good Scotch other than a 18yr McCallen that was absolutely incredible.

if you want an American whiskey that is similar to Jameson's smooth finish, try Jack Daniels "Gentlemen Jack" or "Single Barrel".

Also, found THIS on MSNBC and it mentions Kingfish's Redbreast

Typos are still funny to you after 6 years of Obner? I typically create a typo with almost every post.
