My current favorite American Whiskey is Wild Turkey - Rare Breed. Shockingly smooth for 100 proof.

Redbreast is very, very good. I'd be happy to drink it anytime, but I like the smokiness of Connemara, and a little peppery bite in the finish. At this level, it gets to just an individual preference thing.

My favorite whiskey, period.

I've had just about all the Jameson whiskies...you should splurge and try the 12 year old, 18 year old or the Gold. Then when you're ready to go all-out gonzo, make for the Midleton. Once you've had the Midleton, you'll have an even greater appreciation for Redbreast at a third the price.

I agree that The Glenlivet and Jameson should not be linked in any way other than that they're both in the whisky family.

That said, I cannot ever imagine choosing Bourbon over Scotch or Irish Whiskey. Bourbon tastes like Scotch's retarded brother that shits his pants all day.

I only really wanted to pipe in here to say that Jameson is truly wonderful. It's great because it's a lot less expensive than some of the other whiskey you can get and it is good enough to please a more serious whiskey drinker but also lure in the not-so-typical whiskey drinkers.

It's sweet, a lot of flavor, and will get you fucked if you don't look out. My problem now is that when I go to shows I just keep ordering double after double. My credit card doesn't enjoy the night anywhere near as much as I do.

God I love whiskey. I may go have some now.

I really love Jameson and kind of wish I didn't

I recently took a minor gamble on a $15 bottle of Glen Ness, which claimed to be a single malt highland. I figured there was no way a single malt for $15 would be any good, but it was pretty damn tasty. Little bit of smoke and nice flavor.

Dalen just told you the belt he's wearing costs more than the house you're living in. GAAAAAH!

And I agree. I drink Dewars mostly, but I got a 24 y.o. Glennfiddich for a client. Shit is amazing, but at ~$85 a 1/5 I'm not going to make it my go-to.

Dewars is pretty solid as far as something that will be in every bar and store.

Just go ahead and move North of the Mason Dixon line and get it over with carpetbagger.

Looks like I need to look into some Redbreast at the bar tonight.

Only Redbreast and Green Spot (which is only available in Dublin) are "pure pot still" whiskeys. Pure pot still is the traditional Irish way of making whiskey. The rest of the Irish distillers switched to more Scottish methods of whiskey production after the Irish war for independence. See wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pure_pot_still_whiskey.

i'll drink pretty much anything i'm given for free, but this is the worst thing I've ever drank. I kept it around figuring I'd eventualy get desperate enough to drink it, but that day never came. It smells horrible and tastes worse.
