Seriously, even with "The Girl Is Mine", this album is a monster.

I was probably too young to fully experience the initial impact of this album, although the victory tour was my first concert, and i left wanting to play bass, although i didn't know it was a bass at the time.

Agreed.
"Wanna Be Starting Something" is my jam.

I mean, yeah, that's half the album, right?

But if "The Girl Is Mine" was a single, I'll have to rescind that statement.

Thriller was my first record, but I was definitely too young to understand the magnitude of the record. I just know I had the record, and then my parents got me the tape for when we were in the car.

Girl is mine went to #2.

7 out of 9 were singles.

And Off the Wall is great.

Thriller is more important though, and I only have so many days in a school year, and way too much stuff to cover with these kids.

Oh wow, guess I should have known that.

What I meant was that I only like "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", "Thriller", "Beat It", and "Billie Jean". Those were the only four that I was sure were singles or that I remembered seeing videos for. And "P.Y.T." is OK.

I listened to Thriller a couple months ago, and by far the weakest track on there for me is "The Lady In My Life." Just a complete letdown after the greatness of many of the first eight tracks.

PYT and Billie Jean are the solo Jackson highwater marks for me. But PYT is pretty creepy in retrospect.

PYT sucks. I can't believe the love for that song on here. Girl is Mine is worse but not much worse.

"Human Nature" more or less epitomizes what I don't like about any early MJ.

Well, aside from "The Girl Is Mine", but I don't think he ever did anything else that bad in his heyday.

Dirty Diana is the only song of his I ever remotely get the desire to hear at this point...

To each their own.

I just always felt that the melody was undeniable and even though the song utilizes much of the technology of the time with synths and delayed guitar licks, somehow, to me, it still sounds timeless.

But when I hear "Baby Be Mine" off the same record, the synths on there sound super dated to me. Like the synths of the break dancing era.

I never really cared for any other slow song from those first 2 records. I hate "She's Out Of My Life" and "The Girl Is Mine".

"Off The Wall" sounds like a disco record to me. He sounds like he's stealing a lot from Stevie Wonder on that as well. The only song I really like off of that now is "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" which is still incredible to this day.

I know it was a single because I had the 45. Also had "Say, Say, Say"

I've got a Prince 45 as well as some by Survivor, Aha, Ray Stevens, Club Nouveau (LEAN ON ME!), Starship, and others.

Man, we really came up during the death rattle of vinyl.
