Jeez, it's a 30 page thread of leaks for 2 months of music. What eff do you want? I'm glad it's not a "post-every thing that's on the internet thread" because I would like some sort of filter.

I only had a chance to listen to it once even though I've already heard the live versions of the songs...

I like "Birthday Boy", "I Told You So" "Santa Fe" and "Eyes Like Glue"

Not feeling a lot of the Patterson songs but that is typical; they usually don't grab me until like six months after the fact.

Overall, it's aight...I'm withholding full judgment until I hear the CD or vinyl on my front porch @ top volume.

I think it's pretty awesome. I really like Drag The Lake Charlie.

I think they could have left off Flying Wallendas (I swore this was on Patterson's solo disc?)

and Patterson needs to save songs like "After the Scene Dies" and "The Opening Act" for his eventual Rock Opera about what it's like to play in Fail Bands - Scene Dies is MUCH better than when they debuted it, but I still just don't care for these types of songs in general.

Loscil - Endless Falls [CBR 320] - 2010

Image

Code:
http://bit.ly/cBqQUH

Endless Falls is the fifth full length release by Scott Morgan under the loscil moniker. The album begins and ends with the sound of rain recorded by Scott in his back yard, precipitation being a constant presence in his home city of Vancouver. Many of the other sounds on the album are derived from these same recordings, processed and combined with other harmonic sounds to create the textures and drones.

Something completely new to this release would be vocals, of a sort, a first for any loscil composition, contributed by Daniel Bejar on the final track. Scott states "The collaboration with Dan made us both incredibly nervous. Dan felt out of his element doing 'spoken word' but rose to the challenge. I felt self-conscious about changing the listening perspective from abstract, ambient music into foreground, conscious listening. The first time I heard Dan's voice recording I was terrified and was tempted to call the whole thing off. I listened to it a few more times and it completely grew on me. Now I can't imagine that piece without his performance. I love Dan's use of words, his vocal rhythms and the intimate intensity of his voice."

Jason Zumpano is the only returning performer from past collaborations, he is responsible for the piano parts. Kim Koch and Robert Sparks make appearances on violin and bass recorder. The cover photos for the album were taken from the backseat of the family car by Scott's newest collaborator, his 4 year old daughter Sadie.

Endless Falls is out March 1st on Kranky,

The debut was great. Howl was inconsistenly good. The other albums were utter shit.

Bolachas is going to stop posting albums until further notice.
That sucks.
I'll have to ween myself from daily downloads if I can't find certain comps on other blogs.

I listened to about half of the Loscil on the way to work today. Even though a lot of ambient stuff is still hit or miss with me, I agree this appears to be one fine album at first (1/2-album) blush.

I wasn't hip enough to know of magiska, and I didn't really want to troll on another message board to find music. I'm sure magiska and We are the sleepyheads will keep the music coming.

lovely new album from Tunng!

Tunng - … And Then We Saw Land - 2010

Image

That changes might be afoot in the world of Tunng is apparent from Hustle, the opening track of … And Then We Saw Land. Hustle shoots out of the traps, a pop melody borne along on upper-register piano notes, acoustic guitars and banjos, the slight, breathy voices of Mike Lindsay and Becky Jacobs blending in a way that is wistful and charming rather than wimpy and indefinite. It's a fine start to Tunng's fourth album, and one they build on. They haven't suddenly become a pop band – It Breaks, October and These Wind employ melodies from the English folk tradition – but there's a real oomph and purpose here that, perhaps, Tunng never quite managed before. Those who feel it all sounds uncomfortably commercial should rest assured: this is a step forward, and closer Weekend Away offers a multi-sectioned eight minute track that will appeal to anyone for whom a whistleable chorus is an object of suspicion.

Quote:
Following the release of their debut single ‘Veronica’s Veil’, Fan Death have returned with a brand new EP, A Coin for the Well. The duo Dandi and Marta have achieved something unusual with this disc – an individual record, but commercial enough to secure its mainstream success. Imagine a more disco-ey Bat For Lashes without the pretentious artiness. Yet having said that, a quick trawl of Youtube presents a fantastical and bizarre video for the EP’s opening track ‘Reunited’. Synth-laden disco pop with some funky strings and brass to boot (listen out for the violins three-and-a-half minutes into ‘Power Surge’), this is an easily likeable record.

The songs have great hooks, are repetitive without becoming boring, and, best of all, know when to stop - ‘The Son Will Rise’ seems to end without warning, but at exactly the right time. A Coin for the Well is a well-balanced mix of the optimistic and the brooding – see track four, ‘Soon’, and the darker flashes opening ‘The Son Will Rise’.
