I'd prefer something free but I'm willing to pay for something that will tag a lot of files without a lot of work/typing on my end.

Can someone explain to me why one would do this for your music files rather than just renaming the file?

Seriously. What is mp3 tagging?

the audio players use the id3 tags on mp3s to display the artist, title, and album information. these tagging programs fill those out for each file based on the file name, so that "01-your mom - your mom's uterus is a gaping hole filled only with brief pockets of content- blah blah album title" will get the right tags and you can find it when sorting by artist, title or album. dig?

yeah renaming the file doesn't do much when you're trying to figure out what song is playing on your mp3 player.

i am thankful for this thread. has anyone tried fixtunes? its a pay per song kinda deal where you log into their database and it does some groovy matching. i'm cheap and have only tried the demo, but it seems to work pretty well.
