Dillard & Clark - The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark

I honestly like this more than any Byrds album, and in my opinion of the top 5 country-rock albums of all time.

I've never actually heard this, and there was a time when The Byrds were way up there on my charts. I still like them in small doses.

Great album. I would have agreed with you on better than the byrds a couple of years ago but I've been getting more into the Byrds lately so I don't know. I finally got around to picking up some Dillards recently. Also very good.

I just picked this up at the thrift shop and have been through it once. This is their pre-prog-metal life, when they were still a hardcore band. I saw them about the time this came out (ca. 1988) and I had the same reaction to them then as I have to listening to this now: they're trying too hard to sound like Animosity-era COC, and not doing it nearly as well.

The first thing I heard from Exuma was his cover of McCartney's Monkberry Moon Delight

that and Metastophaliese which, is vastly different from his early stuff...which I now dig since seeing Drinky's description and going "huh" and going to listen to his s/t release (1970 was an incredible year in music)

Whoa, yeah, that is pretty different.

I've only just started listening to him and only have his first album so far.

Here's a song from that for anyone else interested:

If you put Melvins, Gwar, Flipper, and Big Black/Shellac in a blender, and tossed in bits of death metal and hardcore, you’d likely come up with a close approximation of their sound.
